I'm returning back to the UK for a vist at the end of next month after living in Canada for a year. Though l'm more than happy just visiting family/friends and enjoying real food/beer plus the warm weather, l,m coming back with my Canadian girlfriend who has never been to the UK or europe before.

We have 10 days in all staying down in Surrey with my family for a few of thoses days so a day in London is on the cards but l'm looking for suggestions on where else to go and what to see, not just in the UK but europe too.

Thanks,

A little closer to home are Polesden Lacey and Salisbury Cathedral (home of the best remaining example of the Magna Carta - which can only be viewed Mon-Sat before 4.15pm!) if you want a little culture!!!

If you get looking soonish to book in advance/or chance it on some last-minute deals whilst here you can probably grab some cheap flights to Rome/Venice places like that, Rome particularly I thought was quite interesting and a night or two is enough to cover the essential if you keep on the move. Can be quite expensive to find flights to sometimes though.

Wasn't very impressed with Paris personally, saw the Eifell tower, Louvre and Notre Dame etc but nothing special to write home about really besides that - wasn't what I expected really.

Berlin/Munich have a lot of interesting places to see, particularly if you're into historical stuff, not usually too pricey to get flights to either.

My g/f has just returned to the States after ten days. After doing the obligatory visit to my folks we found that just doing South England was a push in the timescale. Depends upon just how much time you want to be sat in planes/trains and buses (or bike if you've got one over here!)

Come and have a meal with a few of us London BCFers? I'm sure I could convince a few of the established names, if you want.

Hi

Warwick Castle? Bit older than most North American tourist attractions.

All the best

Sarrf-fend (Southend on Sea) is worth a daytrip, what with the seaside 'thing' being oh so British.

Thanks for the ideas, I agree about Paris its a complete shit hole. Turns out the GF does have a friend who is living in Munich so that might be a plan to take up a few days plus rome is just a short flight away.

Gerry, a meet up with some BCFers would be great will be landing on the 29 April so could do the following weekend if anyone is up for it, still got my VFR750 at my fathers place so can get about.

Blimey, is it really a year? That's gone quickly.

Whistle stop tour of Britain? Thinking
- Stonehenge
- Wells (its beautiful there, it's England's smallest city too)
- Edinburgh city
- Cambridge (along by the river) or Windsor
- Dungeness (its completely different from anywhere else in the UK)
- Lyme Regis to see the fossils
- Beachy Head
- Devils Dyke (I personally love it up there)

How are you doing? What are you doing for a job? Where are you based?
