Hi guys, I'm newish to riding and would like some advice,

1. Removal of the footrest brakets 2006 YBR125, I know its just a couple of bolts but don't know what else removing the bolts will affect, they are really rusty from when I bought the bike and want to hammerite them.

2. More technical question. Im experiencing a vibration/rumbling when In 4th and 5th gear (only when the gear is engaged, when the clutch is in it seems fine) the chain is ok and my mechanic cant find a fault but im not convinced of his diagnoses tbh

Any advice welcome, and thank you!

At what speed are you changing up to fourth? 125s are low powered high-revvers, if you change up to fourth at too lower revs the engine may well rumble and vibrate.

1 - depends if you mean front or rear brackets

2 if its around the same speed wheels could need balancing, rear wheel alignment, forks alignments, tyre pressure, suspension condition, egged wheel, wheel bearings theres a huuge checklist for random vibrations.....

I like to keep it at about 5/6 rpm, at higher rpm the vibration does lul but never goes away, the problem is finding someone who will go through the bike to find the fault, it seems like some mechanics just cant be bothered unless its a super bike or a Harley, I could be unjustly harsh there though.

Its the grey/silver braket that holds the rear foot pegs but the bolt seems to run all the way through, but not sure if removing it will cause the centre stand to fall off, not good since that's the only support the bike has lol

*Edit* with the vibration only occurring when the engine is engaged, logic tells me that its something engine, gear, chain etc related other wise i would think that when i pull the clutch that the vibration would still be there, if it was say wheel balancing or alignment etc.

I do get a rubbing sound when riding also but this has only occurred the last few days so i think this is unrelated

6RPM? ...BEAST of a machine! Wink

Seriously tho, you're so right about mechanics not caring for 125's (or possibly no bikes at all) I'm convinced my local garage makes their worst mechanic do work on my bike as its considered bitch work, the problems it has come back with are really fundamental things.

My service was done well.. except for the rear brake shoes, which were either fitted badly or something in there, as the brake keeps lacking bite and then bites hard with a clunk. They're now also sqeaking. Still waiting for free time to coincide with nice weather so I can take it apart though!

Also, OP, check the wheels are true and bearings rotates smoothly, check sprockets and chain for wear, even though if it is gearbox this won't make a difference (as you said the clutch stops it). Check the oil is decent, consider an oil change if it hasn't had one in a while or the oil looks very old. I've seen oil changes work some unusual miracles. Unless there are metal filings in the oil I wouldn't assume it's something terribly bad just yet.

Should be just the 2 bolts and the rear foot pegs and hangers will come off the bike will not fall apart..

Vibration and rattle my YBR rattled a bit at high speed just assumed most 125's will do !!

As someone stated fresh oil and filter and chain and sprocket check but your mechanic should have looked at this..
