On GoCompare looking up the deals and it asks what I use the bike for. In truth it will be for commuting and day to day use, but if I select Social only and get in an accident en route to work how is anyone going to know I was commuting?

Even at that people could be using the bike as much socially as people that commute so whats the difference and is there any major repercussions for understating your use of the bike?

Just a minor technicality to get an extra few bob out us?

Ta Thumbs Up

Most commuting done during rush hour = more risk?

To be honest, I've never found commuting to add much to the price.

Adds over £100 to mine

I think it's to do with higher risk when commuting as well as leaving it parked in public everyday in the same place

I'd imagine if they could prove you where going to work or parked at work that they would get out if paying

Still, enlighten me if wrong but there's a bit of a grey area there as I was saying I could work shifts that don't involve traveling through rush hour and instead be socially riding through rush hour.

Clicking 'commute' would be the same as me clicking 'charge me more please' unnecessarily atm unless there is something I'm not considering.

Edit: In response to Clancy my old work there used to have a well secure gated area for staff parking, would take bank heist tactics to get in to steal something. I don't think I spotted a section to choose where the bike would be stored while at work.

Aye, but they ask your occupation, they might not pay out if, let's say, work in a warehouse and the bike gets nicked from outside a warehouse...

No I know, I agree it's bullshit. They don't ask, that way they can charge anyone they like more money irrelevant of circumstances

They can also get out of paying irrelevant of those circumstances. . Provided they can prove it!

It's a load of shit, I never use to click it but as I'm in a city centre now I'd rather have the piece of mind that I'd get paid if it went walkies

Yeah that's what I am saying, quotes should be based on circumstance... I am not sure if this is already an option but at the very least you should be able to get a base quote online and then take that quote with a reference to their customer services and include some other unasked important factors, like for example my former secure bike parking while at work.

A wee bit pedantic of me I know, but wrongly so?

Been quoted £8 a month with Bennetts so shouldn't really complain. Laughing

Are you absolutely clear that's a loan repayment on an annual policy, not a pay-monthly amount?

I've been temped to dismiss this as well in the past - but have tended to be honest even if its only occasional commuting, to reduce the chance of having problems if I have to claim in dubious conditions. I was always concerned that if they really wanted to push for it after an accident, they could request from an employer your work hours if they suspected you of supplying inaccurate information? [If anyone can verify if thats possible it would be very interesting Thinking]

Going from previous quotes i've had, I think its not so much about whether you 'commute' in what they predict will be rush hour traffic etc, but more what you put down as your job. For example; years back when I was working as a nursing assistant, many nursing assistants would presumed to travel from house-to-house throughout the day i.e higher risk of accident [even though I had a single place of work]. Putting my job title AND the fact I commuted raised my quote price a fair bit. Removing commuting made it less, but even after removing the fact I was commuting on the bike having my job listed as 'nursing assistant' made the quote higher than when I listed it as 'retail' to see if there was a difference.

I do agree it is a scam.
you pay extra to add work commute.
but if you're unemployed, and therefore don't have a work commute, you pay more for your insurance anyway! Mad

When they were being anal in London loads of people were bring pulled and biked seized for no insurance doing commuting as it wasn't on their policy.

They will only know if you tell them. I always add it but never goes up in my premiums?!

Side Note: £90 insurance? lucky bastard
