Good afternoon peeps. I've done a lot of searching, and I can't find answers specific to my questions.

I'm looking to fit a topbox to a spare pillion seat on my bike. I've been searching for used Givi boxes, but even used they seem to go for a lot of money.

I've found all of the universal boxes, and am wondering who has experience with these. I've heard stories of them coming off on the motorway, having a lot of movement when mounted to the plate etc.

I will be bolting the mounting plate to the seat, and may well even bolt the box to the plate/seat. When I need to remove it, I'll remove the whole seat.

The box will be used to carry my stuff to work, and for storing some of the bike kit in while I'm at work. I'm not too worried about the security of the box while parked up because I work in a very quiet place. However, I'll also be using the box for a trip to euro land this summer, and will likely use it at other times.

So, I want a box to be secure and safe, and big enough for me to carry enough stuff without being so big that it looks ridiculous.

I'm going to keep looking for second hand Givi's, but I found this today:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TAKE-COVER-51L-SILVER-MOTORCYCLE-BACK-BOX-TOPBOX-LUGGAGE-STORAGE-MOTORBIKE-BIKE-/400522435625?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item5d40ff5c29

Is this going to be too big? Will it disintegrate? Will it be secure enough to feel confident carrying a work laptop in on a 30 mile commute?

Then fit anything. I've used a tool box in the past.

My vast 2 helmet box bought from Lexmoto for £43 or so delivered is fine with the standard slot-in-screw-on fasteners, I've had upwards of 20kg in there.

Also worth looking at Kappa stuff.

Same mounting as Givi, I believe it's the same company too, just cheaper.

This is quite a good shout actually; would be much cheaper and just as good, unless you wanted to fit a full face helmet in there but I can't imagine you would want to anyway.

Extra requirement - it has to look half decent. It's going on a sports bike, so a tool box would be an abomination.

I've got a Lextek top box (I think that's the brand name, with the universal plate screwed onto a mashed up givi plate on the back of my ZZR. Been 80 (kmh obvs) on the motorway with stuff in in some dirty wind and not dead yet!

Well obviously it will. Lesser of two evils and all that jazz.

How big is it? I'm wondering if 51L is going to be way too big. I was initially looking at 30ish.

I think 51l is the 2 full faced helmet size. (52 iirc with Givi)

PM your details, I have a smaller givi you can have. (1 helmet) and a plate. and possibly a key.

I've just ordered a spare pillion seat for this very purpose, and making a platform that my throwovers can bolt onto cleanly as well. At the moment because the pad is quite thin, they hang low. A bit like my saggy old man balls, the left more than the right.

Got the 2 helmet version. It's not too big, It's a sports tourer so supposed to have stuff on it. It's a good addition sometimes to when I want to stash my helmet and say, textile trousers
