The image below has been circulating the net for a few days, The outline is the TT Mountain Course, all of the other circuits inside the outline are to the same scale. This gives some indication of just how big the TT Course actually is. One lap of the course is 37.73 miles, a 6 lap Superbike race is 226.38 miles. In the old days the Senior Race was run over 8 laps, a total of 301.84 miles.

I want to give Avus a try, I'd be good at that.

Isn't that a public road these days? Not sure if it's unrestricted or has ein tempolimit either.

Bloody Germans, restricting their public roads Laughing

I see the imagination was really active when the plans for Avus were drawn up...

It was always a public road (although you had to pay to drive on it at frst) and there's more to it than meets the eye.

They moved the Southern hairpin a few times, but it was essentially two straights up to 6 miles long, so you could get up a fair head of steam.

Then they introduced a massive banked turn at the Northern end, which had no guard rail or fencing, so it was not unknown for cars to exit over the top.

Needless to say, it didn't have a great safety record and loads of people were killed there, including, most recently, Kieth Odor, son of the man that founded Janspeed.
