Gonna be keeping my eye out for a 125 varadero over the the next few weeks, will probably be buying from a dealer, and this will be my first bike purchase.

How much do dealers normally ask for as a deposit to reserve a bike? I'm thinking 10% of the bike price at most? I'm having to borrow the deposit money as I don't get paid for another couple of weeks but want to be able to jump on any decent nick bike that pops up locally.

Thanks! Very Happy

Deposit on a 125 varadero? About 20p...

If you're pov, why plan to pay a dealer premium?

The best deals can be got by having your whole budget to hand, in cash, and swooping like a ninja-snake-hawk on the right private sale the instant it comes up.

Oh I know, and most of the 'deros for sale are private, but I won't really be able to look at bikes week days unless they're local, and of course there's the extra little bit of piece of mind buying from a dealer with some comeback, a few months warranty etc.

Seen a few private varaderos for sale around the £1300 mark but I would have thought they get snapped up pretty quickly.

Of course.

Private sale 'Dearos in good condition do get snapped up quickly. Worn out hacks get traded in to dealers, punted straight onto the forecourt, and that's the ones you'll be buying.

Think how much you could spend on fixing or maintaining a bike in lieu of that £500+ dealer premium. You're literally betting that the dealer bike has more than that needing done to it and that they'll do it without giving you the Victor Devine treatment.

Roger speaks the truth - the dealer warranty isn't worth the premium. When its crunch time - the warranty doesn't cover it anyway.

Scan local ads / ebay - turn up with cash and your away.

I put £100 deposit down on a £2300 bike, no probs. dealer also put new back tyre on for free, as it was an advisory on the mot they'd just done.
