Hi guys,

I am after an air compressor so that I can complete my tyre fitting set-up. I have been fitting my own tyres for a while, and I have everything I need except a compressor. I have been just getting by with the brake cleaner and lighter method, although I no longer want to continue with this.

I have been looking at this air compressor, but I'm not too sure if that's what I should go for or not. It would be nice to be able to use some air tools occasionally (e.g. a single bolt needing an impact gun), but not sure if the one I'm looking at would be up to that sort of thing.

This is the compressor I'm currently looking at as it comes with the hose and connection I need too:

Let me know if this is what I should go after, or if theres any others that I should consider.

Thanks for any help. Thumbs Up Karma

I have the same one, it's about 7 years old now and still going strong.

The quality of the hose is crap, from day 1 it has leaked at the connectors but it's still usable for what I need (brake bleeding, cleaning stuff with air, paraffin gun and tyre inflation).

I did borrow an impact gun once too, but couldn't get it to work. I suspect a faulty gun but the guy who leant me it said that my compressor couldn't handle it. I never saw it working with his compressor so I don't know if that's true.

Hi

Similar spec to my compressor (although a bit higher CFM than mine). Great for light stuff (blowing tyres up, drying stuff off, blowing pipes through, etc)) but not really up to use for air impact drivers, etc.

If I were buying another compressor (and I do think about it fairly often) I would want a tank at least twice as big and with 14cfm+ of air delivery capacity.

All the best

Keith

https://www.screwfix.com/p/impax-zbw60a-24l-24ltr-compressor-230v/27926#

Looks very similar and is £70 cheaper although you'll need to buy your own tools with it.

Back up of screwfix who I've never had quibble about any returns, and they are local if it breaks down. Thumbs Up

I run an impact driver from a measly 6 litre 2 hp model and it still racks up enough torque to snap bolts ( specifically an engine mounting bolt i "tried my new toy on" ).

The impacts are a ot slower than what they would be on a big compressor but you should get by running one on it.

I've got that one, had it a few years now. Good for the average home tinkerer. It can run an impact gun, the air gun comes in useful and it's nice to have to pump up tyres.
