Hi guys.

me and my dad went and bought a cbf125 on sunday. The guy seemed tottally genuine but stated that his v5 and new tax disc which he had got was in his mums car and she would not be back for 2 hours. We had drove an hour to view the bike and did not want to leave without it. The bike is insured and everything like that. He wrote a reciept and gave me the new keepers slip which he did have on him....however, stupidly this seems to have fallen out my pocket on the ride home.

it is now friday and not a sign of anything through the post he said he would send me but he has kept in contact and says he is going to ring the dvla on monday and say hes sold it but ita got lost in the post. My main issue is now im currenttly riding a bike that had no tax disc and no way if taxing it? He says it is definatly taxed....will this show on the police database? Any ideas how I can get it taxed?

any help would be great as I am having to use the bike to commute to work and worried

Thanks zeano183

I would have asked why he had the new keeper slip but not the rest of the v5 Thinking

Could be a genuine enough reason but enough for me to walk away.

Please tell me you did a HPI check on the bike????

If you did and it came back clear, just apply for a new V5. The bloke who sold it should send off the V5 to the DVLA, if he genuinely has it, but I don't believe he does.

You or your father did test ride it didn't you?

The only logical reason I can think of someone only having the slip part of a V5 is they have recently bought the bike but have now realised it has serious issues and is looking to offload it to a gullible fool.

I received the V5 for my Jeep in early February even though I bought it in December.

Wouldn't be panicking just yet as they take a few weeks but this malarkey with only having New keepers slip does sound a bit iffy.

Hope it gets sorted in the end.

Good stuff Thumbs Up

Re the tax, you can go on here and check if it is taxed:

https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-tax

If it isn't, you can get a tax disc from a Post office that dooes them with only the green slip from the V5, plus the MOT Cert and Insurance.

Because some buyers will swallow the most ridiculous whoppers in their haste to get a vehicle and be on their way.
