Hi.

I serviced my bike at it's 20000 km interval on saturday, with new brakepads, a new spark plug and fresh oil. Air filter was fine, so left that as it was.

Anyways, when I drained the oil from it, I only got 0.2L! Shocked
I was very chocked by this, because I bought it at 15500 km, when it had just recieved a service - or so the seller told me. I've checked the oil level several times while I have had the bike, and it has always been fine. Between the min. and max. marker on the dipstick.

Here's a few facts worth noting:
- The last time I checked the oil levels BEFORE servicing, was about a month ago, after my first ride after winter.

- In the middle of last week, when I was doing my everyday commute, I noticed (in the morning when the bike was still cold) that I could see the exhaust smoke in my right mirror. I have never noticed this before. The smoke was white.

- I have ridden around 100 kms after servicing the bike, with no problems. I have been checking the oil level after each ride, and it has been good so far.

- For the last month or so, (before servicing the bike) I noticed that the bike made a kind of "gear whine" when it was cold. When in idle and in neutral it sounded as usual, but when a gear was engaged and the bike was rolling, the whining sound would become higher pitched the higher speed I was going at. This only occured within the first kilometre of riding, so I didn't really think more about it. My mate told me to change the oil, but I waited until the 20000 km mark, as I was going to service it then any way.

What action should I take from now on? Obviously keep checking the oil levels, but what else? Could the engine have taken damage from running with low oil level? And for how long do you think it has been running with too little oil based on the above facts?

It's a 2010 Honda CBF 125 with currently 20100 kms on the clock. (~12500 miles)

Please let me know if you need more information. Looking forward to your replies.

All the best,
Frederik

Looks like you've been very lucky, I ran my CBF below the minimum mark on the dipstick a handful of times and it still went strong. No where near 200ml low though.

If the bike runs fine and no longer smokes or makes that whining noise then i'd forget about it and ride it as normal.

Keep an eye on that oil level. I used to check mine weekly and it needed topping up every week (I did 200-250miles a week).

Thank you for your answer, that settled me a bit. I have barely been able to get my minds on anything but this.

I ride 130 miles a week, but I've never had any issues before this. Strange. Confused

I will definitely be keeping an eye for that oil level. I really don't want to mess up my bike.

We haven't had any recently but there have been a few reports of CBFs going through their oil inside their 2,500 mile service intervals and lunching the engine. Oh, Honda. Tut Tut
