Basically converting my KTM 200 to an SM type setup.

I have the bearings suitable. I now need spacers.

To work out exactly how big I need them to be, is it fine/safe to use washers (2mm thick, 17mm inner, 30mm outer diameter) to space out the front wheel to get it central, that should then give me an exact size to get milled out correct?

Would figure doing the same to the rear, just bigger washers as spindle is mucho thick.

I'd say I won't ride it with them, but I'd likely do it to test anyway... <1 mile. Obviously its likely gonna cause death/kitten slaying etc but is this the best way to go about getting it sized up?

I then have to look at moving the caliper up and out... Laughing

If the wheel is solidly mounted ie, MOT standard and your brakes function, I don't see what harm you could come to. Measure all the spacer and wheel stuff you have taken off, with some rudimentary mathematics you should come up with the answers which keep the wheels centrally mounted.

Wheels that are going in are wider, running bigger bearings and shit, plus a D in Maths and my failure as a human mean I cannot calculate shit Laughing

The idea for the washers is so I can sit there, count the washers, add them up (I can do 2 times table, nice and easy) and then send specs to magician with milling machine Mr. Green

That sounds cock on, then! Thumbs Up As long as everything else is divisable by 2mm!

Laughing I have some 2mm ones also, so I'm sure I can work something out.

I do need the rear wheel milling 3mm or so to clear the disk/caliper so it slots in properly... Sure I can find someone to do so at some point. Until then I'll run it sans disk to line it up.

That makes you Einstein compared to me, I wasn't allowed to do the exam! In all seriousness though, keep the wheels solid and inline. But you know that.

As I think I've mentioned - my Husaberg came with a cut-off spanner head instead of a spacer. Also no spindle nut, so you had to use a ratchet strap to hold it together while you did the pinch bolts up Shocked.
It let me with the appropriate correct (ish) parts, but still worked fine as I got it.

I had the idea in bed last night that shaft collars (as in link) would be make pretty good wheel spacers. They could also be sleeved down if needed with other collars or seamless tube.

Do it with washers, measure teh stack and then get the right spacers to fit?

Original L spacer/speedo drive=x
Original Wheel bearing distance L-R=y
Original R spacer=z
x+y+z= td

x+z=d

Thus measuring new wheel (y1)

y1+\- = new d

I am potato, but you get the drift?
