I'm bored of my gsxr and need something new in my life, something I've always wanted is an rs250, to me there iconic and would take me back to my childhood.

Now I know they're expensive to run, bikes to me are toys anyway. Once a week play things that I take out in the dry power ranger style...

But what are they really worth? There are two near me for sale around the 3k mark, is this there current worth?

They look to have crept up in price slowly over the last few years, but a clean and tidy 250 might be worth about that now.

They sound like fun to ride...

Yeah, I've just got bored of the point and shoot Japanese inline four mate. I guess they'll only go up in value if looked after

Sounds reasonable. Clean RGV's go for £3k nowadays, so £3k for a clean RS sounds pretty good.

Would you be keeping the GSXR as well as buying the RS? The RS250 is a superb 2T but is not practical to own as a sole bike.

If you are keeping the GSXR as well then you will have the best of both worlds.

I love riding my fireblade but my tzr250 is the one that makes me smile the most.

Hi,
for a while, a few years ago, my rs250 was the only "road worthy" bike i had & i used it to commute. (only about 15 miles each way on mostly a & b roads - no m/ways)
& i loved it. Very Happy
sure, you will use more fuel, have to work a bit harder , as in continually going up & down the gear box but i still regret selling it

folks always say 125/250 2 strokes are not practical but who wants practical when you can get home from work with a smile on your face?
3 grand sounds about right as a starting point for a half decent rs.
as an example, i sold mine for 2200 2 & 1/2 yrs ago. & it was in bloody good condition compared to some out there.
i say go for it but let us see some pics 1st? Wink
cheers,
GAZ

If your going to spunk a load of money on a toy that will probably go bang for no reason then buy an NSR250 or a 3MA TZR. The RGV (and RGV derived) engines are shite in comparison. Also UK RGV's have a very average chassis.

There are few spares available for NSRs and 3MA TZRs might even be worse. They don't call them 'reverse seizure' for nothing.

The best value and most useable 250 two strokes are the TZR250 2MA, the VJ21 and VJ22 RGVs, the RS250 and the KR1S.

KR1S isn't bad, but shit spares availability, cack suspension as standard. However it is much more powerful than the rest which is a plus point.

They are also cheaper to buy than RGVs, certainly cheaper than Reverse Seizures and NSRs!

RGV's tick none of these boxes, being not that quick, having an average chassis (in UK form) and being shockingly unreliable without any of the electronics that make the NSR and TZR so nice to ride.

Apart from the VJ21 being one of the lightest and the VJ22 being the best looking 250 two stroke (short of a TZR V Twin or MC28) and being one of the best overall value.
