I just rode a zxr400 for the first time and WOW! Shocked
man I preffered it to the zx6r 04 by far! the revs screamin, the way you can bang it over without any effort at all! can I import one of these brand new (or any other jap 400)? Do other countries still have them in production? Very Happy

Don't think they do. My understanding is that they were produced to get round some legislation at the time in Japan. There didn't really have the following here and as the legislation is no longer in place so they don't make them anymore. You can still get quite late ZXR400s, not sure whats the newest.

Sure if this is wrong someone will correct me Question

they still produce 400s in japan (there are several licence categories in japan as i understand it, and most people don't go any higher than 400 cos it gets very expensive) but the market is purely fashion-driven, a few years ago race-reps were fashionable, now they aren't, so they don't make race rep 400s anymore. shame, imagine how good they would be now, an R4 would be cool

There are no longer 400's in production outside of Japan, as has been said.

However there are many dealers that import next to new 400's all over the country.

I personally wouldn't buy new as they are very very expensive, also some of the 400's are more expensive to insure than some 600's so you may have to take that into account.

Also if your thinking of getting an Import think of spares and parts availibility cos there maybe a problem for the rarer models.

ZXR400 was stopped production in the uk in 2002 I think, it might have been 2001.... Theres not much point buying a new one anyway as they were very expensive at £5355 approx. Get a cheap second hand one for £1500 and learn to ride and not worry so much if/when you have an accident/drop it.
