Hey all,

Looking for a new rear tyre for the GSR. I currently have a BT016 (i think) but its rather square now and looking for something new.

I am looking for something sports/touring as i do about 1k miles a month commuting but like to go out for a proper blast at the weekends too so ideally need something that can last the miles but will offer enough grip on the twisties.

The size if i remember correctly is 180/55/17.

Also is it going to be okay just replacing the rear or should i do the front too? My front tyre is fine, no squaring and plenty of tread left. The rear just seems to get munched up. Its done just under 4k miles.

Thanks,
Benn

1) Keep the front.

2) What makes you not want to replace like for like on the rear?

Sorry, just worked out your replacing a tyre every 4 months.

BT016 is a sports tyre. Not a mile munching friend. Personally I'd go for a firmer compound at the expense of an occasional spirited weekend ride but then I guess it depends how spirited YOU want to get.

I think it is a case of you have a sticky tyre or a long lasting tyre. You arent going to have both.

Nice one Thumbs Up

I was looking at PR3's and 4's too.

So many tyres to choose from! Haven't the foggiest what to choose.

That BT023 looks good though. Gotta save up some pennies now Sad

PR3's are good. You don't need anymore on the road, end of.

BT023 is quite old now, look at the T30 instead

I have the T30 and will be replacing the rear next week after 8K miles or so. The rear could probably easily do 10K but I have trip coming up, so changing it a bit early. You should probably get at least the same or better mileage.

I don't have any complaints about the grip, but I don't push them very hard either. These are central-London commuting miles, mostly.

Like you, I want to try the PR3/4s, but will probably wait until next winter.

Just replace the rear for now with PR3 or PR4, they are amazing tyres, offering all the grip you need.
