So I'm 25, cbt done 2 months ago.
I don't drive a car (or have any interest in doing so)

Currently commuting 50 mile a day there and back, I just need something to get me too 60-65 easily without having nothing left.

I don't want some monster I'm going to kill myself on, just a 250 or 400.

Apart from DAS how else can I get a license to lose the l's and get a little more power.

There has to be another way than forking out £700 for it.

Only other way to get a bigger powered bike without DAS is get a bike, get it insured on L plates. AFAIK the only one that will insure a bigger bike on L plates is bikesure. Take said bike down to the test centre without riding it down there. Do mod 1. Get bike taken back home. Repeat for mod 2. Pass and you can ride bike home.

I'm pretty sure that you have to be with an instructor to ride a big bike with L plates. If you have a friend with a full license perhaps they could ride you down to the test centre with you on the back (provided they're insured).

Alternatively, do you have a friend with a van/trailer big enough for a big bike?

Like I said. Take said bike down to the test centre without riding it there.

You do not need to have an instructor with you if you are not riding the bike there and back, which you cannot do on L plates. You could have someone ride it there for you and give you a lift as pillion or have it delivered in a van, or push it.

Only need an instructor if you are riding on the public highway. On test your examiner has the required warrant for the road ride.

Read This: Yet another one
Do you want a licence, or do you want to learn something that might save your life?
If you JUST want a licence, well, by all means try swimming against the current, making life hard for yourself, and you might get the pass a few quid cheaper.
Alternatively, get a crow bar on your wallet, bite back the bile as you hand over the credit card, and do a course. Make it easy on yourself; get a little learning with it, and a much better chance of actually getting the licence you want, and possibly just as cheaply.

Yes I cannot agree more Mike

The roads are way to busy / dangerous to be out there without good skills

Yes it possible to piss around and get a full licence but it is a gamble as you will be lacking practice / or risking a long ban /criminal record by practising without licence and therefore insurance
You also will not get the inside view on what the examines are looking for

Take the training learn some skills get a bigger bike and then take more training

On a bike your safety cage is entirely your skills

OP rides daily and isn't dead yet: perhaps he doesn't need whatever condescending lecture Teffers inevitably spunked out this time.

Plenty of us passed our tests on our own bikes and then failed to die.

Thread ended with pinky's post.

and they'll quickly return when you have your license.

Hence why those with LOT of experience recommend some post test / advanced training

A minor mistake in a car / van get you an insurance claim

On a bike it can very easily put you in hospital

You have no safety cage you brain is the primary defence you need to learn to defend yourself
