Anyone had the rolling road brake test and wheel alignment test done, was the brake test carried out by the MOT tester or the rider/owner?

That was what I thought, the new brake test in NI is carried out by the rider who sits on the bike and operates the brakes, I was surprised when asked to do this yesterday during testing, there could be a fair bit of operator error in the results and a fair risk of injury I would have thought.

A fair bit of risk on a stationery vehicle? More risky riding there.

Not stationary but on a rolling road, what if the bike jumps out of the rollers as I have seen some cars do?

Nothing, the road is driving the bike so it will just stop. It's not like a dyno run.

It's a while ago now, but the last time I stuck around for an MOT and helped out, for the brake test the guy attached a winch with a strain gauge to the headstock, got me sat on the bike and on the brakes and he pulled until he reached a satisfactory strain reading without the bike moving.

It's supposed to take the riders weight into account. If it stops the rollers, there is no need to weigh it but a borderline one you need to check the weight distribution of the bike with a rider on it (they'll have a set of MOt scales gathering dust somewhere near the rolling road).

I'm trying to remember which way it goes but the roller and sliding floor tests are different. One of them a heavier rider makes it better, the other you want a lighter rider.

That said, I've never had a bike fail to stop the rollers and some of my bikes have had utterly appalling brakes (to the extent you could push the bike forwards with the brake on in some cases) so the minimum requirement must be scarily poor.

My bike was MOT'd yesterday, they did it all. I stayed well clear. That way, if they break it, it isn't my fault!
