Hi we have a pub in blackburn with a good sized car park and was thinking about holding a bikers day to raise money for a motorcycle charity we would have a band on through the day and hopefully be auctioning off a helmet signed by British super bike riders. If this is something you would come to please let us know the more interest we have the bigger it will be and possibly become a annual thing and possibly set something up once a month so please let us know what you think also any ideas of what we could do on the day or more than welcome also we have a couple of charity's we are looking at but if you know of any just tell us about them and we will look in to it thank you

I think you'll be safe from any onslaught. Here we tend to be hard on people who organise little jollies for themselves while asking us to chip in with charity being second to the jolly itself.

What you're suggesting has something for all who attend, thereby donating, as well as offering a social event.

Good luck with it.

Just one warning, if there is a lot of interest from BCF members don't, under any circumstances, have any sort of fire or naked flame. Not only will you find all your furniture reduced to ash the next day, there will quite likely be explosions.....

PS Air ambulance would be my first choice of charity

Fair play for testing the waters and asking the question. Thumbs Up

Most nobbers come on with "great times, for charidee, raise millions, rossi attending, free blowies, much food, very generosity"

Depending on the location I might pop along for a mooch if it goes ahead.

Or https://www.nabd.org.uk/ - a charity that directly benefits bikers.

Not Riders for Health please. They mean well, but it's taking up the white man's burden, and sod all to do with UK bikers.

Someone, at some point, will suggest Help For Heroes, because duty-honour-respect-rememberest. They should be kicked squa' in the nuts.

Air Ambulance are one reason I'm still around today (oh FFS don't help them then! Laughing ), so that'd be my choice.

Sounds like a decent idea Thumbs Up

I'd go for www.nabd.org.uk as well personally - air ambulance gets quite a bit of help from various areas [not to say it doesn't need or deserve it] but NABD isn't as well known to much of the general public, bit of bike-event publicity goes a long way for them Thumbs Up

Obviously don't forget to lock up your wives and daughters from the marauding gangs of bikers that come rumbling into town Wink

Not as local to you (but you may have a local group to donate to) but I volunteer for SERV Wessex, Blood bikers.

We volunteer all evenings and all day weekends and bank holidays, and take blood, platelets, plasma and samples across 3 counties. We get zero funding from the NHS etc and rely entirely on charitable donations.
We ride our own bikes and pay for our own fuel, jackets etc etc.

We have also recently started supplying the Hampshire Air Ambulance with blood. They now carry it on board to administer on scene or on route to hospital.
It has been operation for just over a month and they have used the blood 3 times already.

Just a thought Smile

I have a moral objection with supporting anything for Help for Heroes. It's not that I don't like what they do or have any problems with them etc but surely, surely the charity shouldn't even exist? The Government should be doing the work they do. If people carry on supporting H4H the Government carry on getting away with it. We pay tax and duties to support the Armed Forces. After care should be an extension of that.

*EDIT word objection from obligation.

Live music always goes down at such events - go around your local pubs / clubs and tout for bands to play for free.

Also do a stall selling things like hot soup and a roll or hot chocolate/coffee/tea and cake. These are good money spinners.

Also tombola with loads of different prices, go around a few local bike shops and see if you can get donations, I'm sure some will have old stock they can't get rid of.

I do the devon air ambulance ride every year, all the bikers meet up in North Devon early on, do a 70 odd mile ride together to the sea side where they have a bike show/competitions etc and a band and all sorts going on

It's absolutely brilliant, last few years there have been over 1000 bikes there

If you are yourself a biker or know any, I would suggest organising some sort of ride that ends at your pub. Then with all the stuff you've said about having on at the pub

If there's a ride involved first it will get more bikers there than if it's just a turn up thing

Just a word of caution. There 'was' the Rawtenstall bike weekend, great show, absolutely loads of people attending, Wall of death, loads of stalls, manufacturers stands, even a mini moto track with regular races. The council, aided by the police, killed it on 'Health and safety' grounds. Maybe not quite fair, the insurance companies had a part to play as well.
Even the well loved Thundersprint has upped sticks from Northwich and camped out in the wilds of Derbyshire.
Anything that a local council can get its teeth into seems doomed in the North-west. Good luck persuading the worthies to allow you to hold anything more extreme than a flower show.... then you have to convince the lazy bastard police that the town won't be burnt down....then get an insurance company of leeching bastards to cover you for less than a kings ransom. (Been there, still bare the scars).
