Ok first off my older sister is getting married this September and wants both me and the other half to go. However her other half has said that the registry office only holds 20 people and if my other half goes it will be to many, He has now said the the other half may be able to go but he'll have to stand up, however we are both welcome to the wedding reception!

Who would go and who wouldn't?

I've spoken to the other people and they say to go because of family and others have said not to because of my other half.

It's not like he isn't family!!!!

Seems like they should have got a bigger registry office! Maybe they should find somewhere outside where they could have a civil ceremony? Remember anyone can become a reverend via the internet these days...

But anyway, you should go whatever, and if your other half has to stand at the back or outside, well only so many people can fit in a room!

Flippin' eck. I think if you ask your other half he'll be more than happy if there isn't room, and will be glad to wait in the pub or even better only go to the evening do. Or better still not go at all.

I think you should definately go though, and as a consolation he can have his mates around or go for a night out.
Don't forget, weddings are actually just to keep girls happy.

If you're both going to the reception then that's the important bit. I don't think you should miss your sister getting married because your other half won't fit in the room, after all it's only a practicality and nothing personal towards him.

Weddings are funny things...I'm bridesmaid at one tomorrow (god help me!!!) and then in a couple of weeks another friend is getting married and I'm just invited to the reception for that one. Some of my friends haven't even been invited due to cost, which has of course stirred up some controversy!

No matter how shitty the groom may be, it is your sister's big day and I think you should put aside the disappointment you feel and fall in with her wishes. You can both enjoy the reception afterwards knowing that you came out of the situation "smelling of roses".

Just that if I am right in assuming that order of precedence in invites goes to "close" family first you don't get much closer to your sister than you, and your man comes as part of the package.....

That said, your sister's fiance is obviously a bit of an arse and it sounds like he's being one deliberately over this. But it is his & your sisters day.

If you want to see the ceremony, go. Whether your man goes or not he will come out of this retaining dignity and making this other bloke look like the prat that he obviously is.
