So, still sat in glorious communist China, where the air is toxic and the people dim-witted.

I finally got a new helmet. I went for a full face, better quality jobby with vents, decent visa and pretty solid construction inside and out.

In the UK, any time you walk in to a bike shop, you get hit with the "you only buy an £X helmet if you have a £X head"

In China, if they are wearing one at all, it won't be strapped, and will be just a shell of plastic. Most of Asia the same. Like I say, the people are occasionally utterly baffling.

Anyway, how much do you reckon my head is worth?

Spoilsport!

But yes. Now, lets hope no one knows how much that is in real money Wink

Seems a perfectly stout helmet, and I've owned plenty of Arais and AGVs in my past... I don't intend to get my head stuck between two trucks if I can help it.

Obviously the AGV is the better product, but 200x better (for a basic non-fancy graphiced one)? I think not.

Rented a bike in Thailand the other day, they gave me a helmet to wear, it probably would have offered about the same protection as my ski helmet! Not that you even need to wear them in Thailand.

But, if you're all so blaze about it... doesn't it annoy you that they somehow cost so frigging much in the UK?

Even in Australia you are allowed to buy second hand (and obviously sell) motorcycle helmets in Cash Converters. True story.

Can't see the big dealers over here enjoying that. Going in their showrooms with my (obviously of the exact demographic they prey on) father, and they oiled and greased around us trying to upsell everything. Upselling makes my skin crawl.

Since then I try to avoid going in bike dealers, except to laugh at the price of OE parts compared to generics.

Given the low price why not buy another, shove a cabbage in it then drop it from a first floor window and see what happens!

looks a lot like a shark, especially the visor mechanism

I guess they're about £5 each, if you're buying a container load

Little bit.

They're a polystyrene ball (the bit that matters) in a plastic shell (where cheaper is possibly better).

Ten dollah is about the right cost price for basic safety. Anything more than that is features and marketing.
