Hopefully it's just a loose connection or damaged wiring. You'll need to get wiggling, and Chinese bikes should come with a free multimeter. If you don't have one, I'd hit up eBay tonight and splurge £5 on a basic digital one.
Brace yourself for the sender just being broken in the tank though: bike fuel gauges seem to be a low priority afterthought. None of mine have even been more than a vague "more" or "less" indication. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
