Bike wants to stand up through the corners

Only noticed this when going from the GSXR to the ZX9, the front end handling feels very strange... when I tip into a corner, the bars feel like they are fighting me to keep the bike upright, so a lot more input is needed, whereas the GSXR seems to hold a line when I give it one.

It doesn't seem to want to hold tight lines especially.

What could this be?

Don't mean to state the obvious but are the tyre pressures spot on?

And not squared off?

Head race bearings feel notchy?

The tyres aren't squared off but they are fairly old - when I first got the bike on the road from being laid up (by the previous owner) it would just wheelspin itself silly on any kind of power. They seem to be OK now though - I've had some real blasts on them.

How can I check the head bearings? No main stand Sad

Get a mate, and then he can pull the front wheel off the ground on the sidestand, whilst you check the head bearings for play. Thumbs Up

A zx9r handles worse than a gsxr750?

how olds the ZX9? Potentially rear suspension linkages old/rusting/seizing?

It's only got 14k on it, but '98.

I don't expect it to handle as well as the GSXR, it just doesn't feel quite "right" - maybe I'm just expecting too much of it.

My mate had one that he complained about handling heavily. He fitted wide bars on it and said it was a huge improvement.

I recently had the same problem on my Exup1000.The front tyre looked okay and the tyre pressures were at 36psi.

I have spare wheels so changed them over - instant differance Thumbs Up

I have also had this on my R1.But a slightly differant reaction.I would go into a right hander and the front would slid.I knew that the tyres were correct as I check them before every ride.I changed the front tyre and again - instant differance.

What would this suggest? I don't have spare wheels but mine are not buckled. The only issue with them is the usual Kawasaki (of that era) brilliant paint on the rims.

I used to get this on my old ZX6, but noticed some oddities while riding in a straight line too. Turned out to be the head race bearings. Once they were changed it was like a completely different bike.

I think you will find the difference in geometry /weight/chassis technology will be the main reason. What year was the Gixxer? I don't think the ZX9 was known to be a sharp handler when it came out.
Assuming everything is in good nick drop the yokes 15mm and see if that helps.
