Since having a Cagiva 2-smoke a few years ago (which was nicked Sad ) I've been hankering for a new 2 smoke.

The only issue is that none of them are "new".

Which ones have a good stock of spares (new pref) and won't get rare too soon?

I was thinking the NSR but that's been out of production for about 12 years now.

What capacity are you looking at? An NSR 125 will be fine. An NSR250 will be a complete nightmare.

That said, I have a KR1S which is supposed to be hard on parts, and I keep seeing OEM gasket sets and so on come up on ebay. You can get parts for anything if you try hard enough.

Hi,
plenty of spares available for evo version of mito + good sub-section of owners (who actually know what theyre talking about) over on 125cc sportsbikes.

im a fan of the MK2 mito (round headlight, 7 speed) + currently have 2 in bits in one of my sheds. Very Happy
mk1 + 2 mitos can usually be had quite cheap, as well as plenty spares around but noticed prices creeping up for complete original bikes.
paintwork doesnt last well but re-sprays in any other colours except red or yellow are frowned upon, so dont go trying to find a decent mk2 lucky explorer.
i sold mine with mikuni tmx35 carb + set up perfectly. went cheap because the white paint glazes/cracks + decals cant be had, shame i miss that wee bike, used to scare a few bigger bikes.
never been able to find another decent one.
generic pic of what im looking for attached
cheers,
GAZ

ps : if your looking for"newer", the aprilia rs125 was in production until recently, but most are in bits due to being owned mostly by spacktards. spares can be pricey.
nsr has best reputation, keeping the prices quite high.

I was looking at a 125, something small for going into Manc and back so probably filtering, and not looking like a nobber on a enduro barge trying to filter Wink

So NSR parts are still plentiful?

It's a poor reason to choose a two stroke bike based on how good the spares situation is IMO.

Most Japanese two strokes you can still get many parts for, and for some stuff like powervalves, gearbox parts, and crank pins etc are being re-manufactured now too.

You can get pretty much any two stroke crank re-built with new parts, or alternatives that will fit and work just as well. KX125 rods on a KR1S for example.

Even rare bikes that once seemed to be impossible to get new engine parts for like the NS400R are much better catered for now due to 2stroke specialists who've done development/tuning work for them etc.

I'd choose a 2T based on the style of bike your after and price you can afford, not what is popular easiest to get spares for. At the end of the day even stuff like NSR250's if you can afford the bike, there are always places that you can get spare parts supplied from budget permitting.

I had a Cagiva Roadster previously and the bike was a nightmare for parts. Rear sprockets were like rocking horse droppings.

I'm just looking for what isn't going to take me 6 months to find an essential part then import it from darkest east europe.

There is about to be unveiled a 500cc 2 stroke Racing Bike created by German company?

https://www.visordown.com/motorcycle-news-new-bikes/new-500cc-road-legal-two-stroke-racer/24841.html

https://www.ronax500.com/en/

https://www.motorcycle-usa.com/1/18348/Motorcycle-Article/Ronax-500-2-Stroke-Race-Bike-Teaser.aspx

German company Ronax GMBH has announced it will release a new, limited-edition 500cc V4 2-Stroke race bike on June 8, 2014. At www.ronax500.com there’s scant information available, except for a world-premiere ticker and photos of the machine under stretched yellow fabric.

The teaser images betray some features of the machine which make it appear that the Ronax 500 will be an homage to one of the final 2-Stroke race bikes to contend the MotoGP World Championship. The German firm states only 46 Ronax 500 units are planned for production. Number 46 is, of course, none other than Valentino Rossi, who took the final 2-Stroke MotoGP title, in 2001 aboard Honda’s NSR500. I’m no Sherlock, but the pieces of the puzzle seem to line up nicely.

The Ronax 500 site also claims that, while designed as a racebike, the new machine will also be easily convertible for use on the road, saying “with only a few easy adjustments the bikes is transformed from a racebike into a roadbike!”

Am I bad for thinking that looks quite nice, in a simple no frills kind of way?

Might as well have a 125.
