I would say that you are actually better off if ever caught taking a number plate off, and riding like that, than ever having a flip plate, which will be considered perverting the course of justice, which usually means a whole world of shite..
Would agree with this. I've actually been pulled for no numberplate on my old 125 as it genuienely fell off mid-ride. The cop was actually very reasonable about the whole situation to be honest, explained I had no idea it had fallen off and that I was riding home after a day riding. Told me to go straight home and get it sorted before riding again.

There may well of been a fair bit of discretion on his behalf though, and I was also only about 5 miles from home and heading in the right direction - expect if any of those factors had differed it could of been a whole different story.

The whole plate-flip thing really isn't worth it in my opinion, a fair amount of bikers maybe ride above the limits for years without tickets - bit of common sense should avoid tickets and legal grief more than risking getting crucified for using a plate flipper if you do get caught.

How about if you get stopped but it's defused (while you're on your way to where you are trying to impress the girls, off road) and the fuse holder is out of reach - eg under the seat - where you can't access it on your miles on the UK roads?
That'd be a good defence I'd imagine. Still not sure why you'd want one though, but there you go!
