I'll be buying my first bike (hopefully within the next two weeks) and not having a lot of biking knowledge, and, not knowing many people with a lot of biking knowledge, what can you peeps advise me to look out for? Confused

Also, I can't get this thought out of my head...... Embarassed

.....I've not touched a bike since I sat my CBT in December, do you think I'll be alright to drive my new bike home once I buy it? I was pretty confident on my CBT and had no problems at all, in fact I loved every minute of it, and having my car licence, I have (what I'd like to think) a good knowledge of highway code etc.

Cheers Peeps Thumbs Up

You should be fine mate. I didnt have much experience before doing my CBT and then I went straight on to do my test about a month later. Getting on a bike after about a months gap feels weird for like the first 10 seconds and then after that it's second nature.
Just take it easy though Smile

Cool. It looks even better in when you see it in person. Good luck with everything. If you've been driving a car already then you should be fine on the bike as long as you take your time to begin with. Thumbs Up

Congrats Fallen one, are you still going for an NSR?

My advice: Take someone with you who does know the technical stuff about bikes...then you can blame them if the engine nearly falls out (ahem Rolling Eyes )

I rode my bike home without tax. As long as you have proof of purchase with the date on then the police are lenient. Just make sure you have insurance to ride it!

when I got the bike I was in the same position as you, I only had my CBT and that was it!

If you come to the house to look at it there is a driveway that goes all the way round it in a loop so if you're worried about going out on the roads you can always just ride round the house!

(and no, the engine isn't about to fall out Wink Laughing )

I took my bloke with me and he checked everything on it...he knew what he was looking for (except for the small matter of missing engine bolts but I'll forgive him for that!).

I also took him and Kickstart with me to see another one (which turned out to be a nail) so it was great letting them check it over and relaxing in the knowledge that they would spot any crapness or area's where I'd need to pay to get it up to a good standard.

Nice one fallen Thumbs Up! Two birds, one stone. Izzi finally has to sell her bike and you get to own a beauty Very Happy

Personally I should imagine you will be fine riding it home. Have a few practice runs around the local roads first and see how you feel. Failing that, if you can take someone else with you with a licence then it may be worth having then as a back up plan just in case upi don't feel confident enough.

Cheers Annabella, that's one of my problems though, I don't really know anyone else with a licence, so it's up to me!! Rolling Eyes

I'm not really a nervous person and I do think I'll be fine, but it's just one of those things that's been sticking in the back of my mind!!

I know it's illegal, but I think the "I've just purchased it" scenario would work!

The one bike I have in mind isn't taxed 'cause it's owner is no longer insured to ride it and you can't tax a bike without it being insured!

Cheers for the advice, but I think I'll take the chance! Wink

I will make sure I am insured to drive whatever bike I decide to get mind you! That's not worth the risk!

Cheers to you all for your advice Thumbs Up - what a friendly bunch you are! Wink

Especially being female. Play the "dumb blonde" routine. I'm sure it'll win. Thumbs Up
