Right I've got to option of having either a Datatool System 4 alarm system or a Road Angel biketrac fitted to my bike before the dealer delivers it.. They're both the same price so it's a choice of either really, can't afford both.

Originally I'd opt for an alarm but so often I hear of the trouble people have with them, and to be fair the features of the tracker seem a lot more useful in the event of a theft or attempt, such as live map tracking, text and email alerts etc.

So given the choice which would you guys recommend? Anyone experience either of the above or similar and can shed some light?

May also be able to have it Datatagged or equivalent too.

And trackers can be disabled easy unless they are a good one. GPS and phone signals can be blocked easy.

I'd recommend a good well fitted alarm (no vampire taps) which is very loud and a disc lock at least or a very good chain.

It purely depends on what you're looking for.

If you want a deterrent, then an alarm is the one.
If you want to recover it in the event it's taken, a tracker.

I don't think alarms stop people taking them, if I had to go for one, I'd opt for a tracker.

Tracker. The alarm won't get your bike back and road angel boast a 100% recovery rate.

Tracker, as said above, i'd rather have a chance of getting my bike back if it was ever stolen + a cheap cyclone alarm.

I'd go with this too - don't have a tracker as anything worth having is out my budget.

Alarms are worth having in my opinion as a general deterant/warning if the bikes near your window etc, but I wouldn't remotely rely on it to prevent the bike being stolen - see very little benefit paying anything more than the cost of a Cyclone/NCS alarm personally.

A decent tracker installed somewhere separate to a cheap alarm with a nudge sensor. Tracker to get bike back and perhaps catch the bastards, alarm to keep cats and children away and to let you know if anyone messes with the bike.
