Hi. Recently I've been commuting a 20 mile round trip to work and back , currently I have some maxxis knobblies on which are great for the mud and lanes near me. But awful for hard packed road surfaces and roundabouts in the wet.

Any one recommend any dual sport tyres with a bit more rubber contact. Its for a xr400.

I like Pirelli Scorpion MT90's. Had them on my Varadero 125, got my knee down twice. Thumbs Up Never felt slippy, even in the wet, but it was a 125, however my mate uses them on his XTZ660 Tenere, on his road wheels, and he reckons they're good enough to play with his mate on a Bandit 600.

I just keep using knobblies, but I get them for free/really cheap. Just paid a tenner for a part worn 6 days, I still got 1200 miles out of it. I know a bloke who owns an offroad shop, and normal endure people seem to just like buying tyres without ever using them. Laughing Thumbs Up

I had some Scorpion A/T tyres on my XT 125 and found them to be very good both on and off road, never let me down.

How about the Distanzias? Almost went for a set myself after seeing how good they looked on Dischords KTM @ bottom of page:

Given tbe choice, I'd go for two sets of wheels - swap wheels to the ones with decent knobbles for off-road and stick to road tyres on your daily wheels.

Otherwise it's always a case of how much of a compromise you want - and you should work this out before looking at what tyres are available.

Yeah two wheels is the way.

I'm going to stick some MT90's on my spare set for my TTR 250. Keep the knobblies for the weekend. Much easier than thinking about compromises or struggling on the wrong tyre.
