Hi all,

While filling her up today, my stand slid on some diesel and the whole thing went over, with me wrestling her back to no avail. Luckily, i only damaged the clip to hold the indicator together. I generally hold the bike up when filling to get more in and i'd advise to all those who are new to biking and to those without a centre stand that they should fill only on the right side of the pumps so you're between the bike and the pumps on the tilting side. I have drawn a wee example below to illustrate. 8 is bike, o is me and | is pump.

8o | = bad
|o8 = good

If i'd been on the other side i'd have been able to save her but alas i did not and now have 1 indicator short. Plus, i stank of petrol for about 2 hours after aparently.

Just some advice for those who've not dropped their bike in a petrol station before.

good! go bitch at the fuckers!

complaining in the petrol bit wont get you anywhere however. Go into the main shop and go to the welcome desk and explain that your vehical was damaged due to failure to clean up. they will most likely appologise and give you something Very Happy

You should have really complained at the time. However the petrol station will have a video of you in the petrol station. Maybe even of the bike slipping over.

Go to the petrol station tomorrow, they may change the tape every other day. Finally write down all the details of what happened, time etc. Also ask for the Regional Directors name as you will be writing to him for compensation.

Good luck!

sainburrys are very good ushally when it comes to customer complains, when l worked at sainburrys we had a customer come and complain that a carton of milk that he purchase off us had split open in his car all over the back seat, sainburrys payed for the car to be profestional cleaned and for a curtsey car while the work was beeing carried out.

see if you can get them to fork out for the repairs.

I usually fill up while seated on the bike, side stand down, with the pump on my right.

This way I can keep the bike upright to fill, my feet are also holding me in place, and my hands are free to work the pump.

Takes a bit of getting used to, but works for me.

I always fill up sitting on the bike. When I have filled her up, I usually roll the bike forward so not on any damp patches on the ground, put the side stand down then go and pay.

If I see wet near the pump I go and tell the attendants before putting my bike there - as I dont want diesel or oil on my tyres.

I agree with those who advise you to complain and if you do it in a calm way advising them what difficulties are caused by diesel spills they are more likely to try and avoid this happening again and offering you some sort of recompense.

I disagree with the idea of sitting on the bike while filling up. If you were to spill fuel and it ran down on to a hot exhaust I hate to think of the possibilities. How important is it to get that last eighth of a pint in?
