Well, two weeks today I will be leaving for France. With much help from this site I feel ive got everything I need etc! Thanks!

Theres just a couple of questions I have;

Ive got the original exhaust for my bike, would people recommend I stick it back on for the trip to save my ears abit? I have a yoshimura on it atm which is abit loud. Does anyone do this?

The second question is, do I need to adjust my rear suspension for the extra load it will be taking? There's not much stuff on the back, only a 5 day trip! If I do, can anyone help with how? (gsxr k4 600)

Cheers

I'd take good quality ear plugs and not bother to muck about switching pipes.

If it was me, I'd load the bike up and take it for a spin before I started worrying about tweaking the rear. If it feels fine, it is fine.

BTW - Be ruthless with what you leave behind. I ALWAYS manage to pack too much!

Yesterday I came back from the west coast of Ireland over to the East coast of England and the one thing that got to me was the noise. So anything you can do to help yourself I would do.
I didn't notice the noise when pottering around the A roads here but once I got on the motorway and was on them for hours at a time the noise got to me.
Also remember that it only takes roughly 2 hours of constant road noise to PERMINANTLY destroy some of your hearing. No drugs, operations or crying will get it back.

Put the loud exhaust back on once your back and running around for fun for an hour or two.

I'm due to go to France in two weeks too, with the BCF lot. I have a very loud can on my bike, and am not going to be changing it. I will be taking the baffle in case it gets too loud, but I find the wind noise to be much more of an issue, and at higher speeds can't hear the exhaust at all. Earplugs will be worn at all times though, but that's normal for me Thumbs Up

I am sure your ears will survive however. I have now started (past two years) to suffer tinnitus and i blame years of loud bike exhausts. Think long term. When i go away with luggage and the wife all i do is an extra few PSI in the black round things and good to go.

Make sure you have plenty of tread on the tyres.

Good advice, too many times have I set off for a 3 or 4 day tour with someone in the group having good tyres, and within 300 miles they are shot. Modern tyres seem to go off rather quickly. You think you have a thousand miles in them, 200 mile later they are gone.

Good advice, I've had to replace tyres when in Europe before and it can be very expensive (nearly £500 in Istanbul and 490 Euros in Austria) I'm having to take tyres off my FJR with barely 1500 miles done on them for our trip to Europe in a couple of weeks. Had planned on wearing this set out before now but it didn't work out. Bad timing Wink

thanks for all the advice! I have a baffle for my exhaust so I think I'll just put that in and invest in some ear plugs too!

as for the luggage I've had a test run and everything felt ok so I'll just stick some extra psi in! Thumbs Up

Can't wait to just go now, praying the weather is kind to us! Smile

There is no need to increase the tyre pressure, just adjust the suspension if you have to.
Most bike run on 36psi font and 42psi rear
