hi people. This is probably going to sound very stupid but it is a genuine question! new biker, passed my mod 2 last Wednesday. I have just bought a cbr600f as my first bike and I was wondering if jet washing it to clean it is a good idea or not? some people have told me it is fine, others have said its a def no no?
advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Did my zzr in the jet wash the other day for the first time. Doesn't do a very good job for detail bits or hard to reach bit certainly gets the top off. I'd say good for thick dirt but better with a bucket and sponge.

Don't spray the radiator from close up and anything that looks electrical, wires etc and it should be ok. Well it was for me anyway.

Keep it away from the chain, wheel bearings, radiator, electrics, engine block, brake calipers.

Only use it on the screen and fairing.

TBH though, i wouldnt bother.

Get a bucket and sponge on it.

I wouldn't jet wash it, it forces water into bearings, electrical bits and bobs and can do a lot of damage. Spend 15 minutes with a hose and a bucket at home and save yourself a lot of hassle.

Hmmmm suspect Honda electrical systems, a newbie and jet washing to me sounds like a recipe for gremlins. I have a CBR600f and I don't jet wash it. Bucket, sponge and elbow grease. Wink

Iv saw too many people stripping lacquer off with a jet wash.

Keep it for cleaning decking, hose is plenty fine for cleaning bikes/cars.

A gentle hosing, muc off or similar and another hosing will shift most things. Even with a low pressure hose it's possible to drown electrics in creative ways, but there't not enough pressure to rip through oil seals

Really - this. Fuck that jet spray bollocks. If there was any way of telling if a seller had habitually jet washed their bike I would NEVER buy it. Unless it was some sort of tough guy off roader, and even then.

The little hand-pump 'pressure washers' in the post above are quite useful for getting into the nooks without going full-turbo jet wash like a lot of the commercial and electrical ones. Still obviously want to keep it away from the chain and other risk areas but its good for getting muck off bits that its hard to get a hand and clothe into Thumbs Up

I used to obsessively wash my bikes - rarely bother now days, ACF 50 on the risk of rust areas, then a wet clothe with a bit of soap to wipe the fairing and wheels once in a while, LOOKS clean in under 5 minutes Razz
