Hi guys,

I've found a 1999 CBR600fx in near mint condition and I cannot WAIT to go and pick it up!

My only worry is i fear it might be restricted import? The speedo has been converted from kph to mph - it still reads in kph but the needle obviously rises slower to show the mph value. The dealer is telling me it definitely isn't restricted but of course he wants to sell the thing!

Is there anyway of finding out? I don't think i will notice on acceleration because anything seems fast at my level of riding!

thanks in advance!
Paul

You'd know if you rode it.

The restrictor is just a set of washers that block of some of the airway into the carb. You'd have to remove the tank and airbox to check.

They are easy to remove IF you're handy with spanners (or a mate) but the fuel mix would need rebalancing.

Any reason to doubt the guy?

The next bargain is always just around the corner.

Thanks, society has changed a bit and people are less trustworthy these days when money is involved! Looking around it seems very rare they are restricted actually!

Not if it's a French bike, though it would only be a few hp down from the UK model.

I'd check it has a UK headlight first. If it doesn't it won't pass it's next MOT.

Just checking: have you actually seen and ridden the bike? It's one of the most common sports-tourers in the UK, and there are loads of decent low mileage examples kicking around. At that age, I wouldn't pay a dealer premium on one in return for the usual pack of lies and a warranty that will last until you get it off the lot.
