Anyone owned one (2008-2011)?

I've fell in love with the look of them and the RSV Mille factory after looking around a few dealerships. It's the sort of hooligan, wheelie, fast, sports bike, sharp handling bike that I want next.

How do they compare to say the ktm 990 and other naked rivals in the same price range?

Also the Mille factory.. How does that compare to other sports bikes? (specifically the 04 r1 and gsxr thou k6 I've had my eyes on for a while).

A mini review would be very appreciated Very Happy Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Less scary, gsxr1000 k6.

Tuono are nice but problematic..

clocks are bad for getting condensation inside then completely fugging up, cam sensors suspect, disc buttons wear, water gets in the tank, batteries die early, besides that and more they are fantastic to ride, quick and handle well, definatley a bike you buy new and get rid of before the warranty runs out

Second generation Tuono twin a lovely bike. Most problems fairly easy to sort, check out the Aprillia forum. Frequent valve checks though.
If you want hooligan without the problems, buy the gsxr and fit an LSL flat bar conversion. Drop the front 5mm to compensate for not being over the bars when riding (or it will run wide on corners).
04 R1 good but not as easy to ride hard as the gsxr IMO.

Valves on Rotax engines very rarely need doing/hardly ever go out of tolerances.

All the little problems as mentioned above are easy to fix, though more niggly issues as opposed to problems leading to causing issues with the bike.

Will be significantly slower than any Jap inline 4 litre. Although for me that means it's a lot more useable/less scary. Closer to a 600 albeit more torqey (lazy) than a thou.

So in all good bikes, not as quick as new inline 4's but geared better for the tighter roads, have a few niggles but nothing serious (mainly electrical - typical aprilia/Italian bike), handle good.

Sounds about right for me apart from the power. I'll have to ride a gsxr thou and a few other inline four 1000's first.

Was thinking btw of having this as a second bike for the summer/weekends instead of a supermoto (decided massively underpowered for the kind of roads I ride and bikes I ride with e.g r1 04, cbr 600rr.) then having a hack (maybe keep the thundercat for this only cost £1000, very reliable) or maybe the gsxr thou would be a mix of the both so no need for both? Thinking

Erm, not quite. Id say theyre just inferior. I prefer Twins because I'm a skinny little git so they 'feel' more manageable to me although its probably no difference. And I prefer the sound. I wouldnt say theyre geared better for tighter roads either. Still great bikes that will be far beyond your skill levels, but in my experience an equivalent inline four is a superior bike.

If you gave me the option of a Tuono or a GSXR1000 K6... I'd go for the latter, ridden both, the GSXR trumps it in almost every way.
