Hi guys new to the forums mainly been on TMBF and i read this alot so i thought i would register, i also posted this there but edited it a bit for this forum so i hope you can help Smile

So things have changed for me a bit and im now able to (barely lol) afford my first 125 bike Smile

So i have narrowed it down to 2 bikes which i like and are in my price range and available in Northern Ireland as there isnt a huge choice. Now im going to be riding this bike for atleast a year if not more so i need to find something im completley happy with. Some things to keep in mind are im 5 ft 10 " and around 13 stone if that makes any difference.

Hyosung GT 125 R -

I just love the look of this bike, the size of a 600 with the engine of a 125 roughly, looks the part and i found a real nice one in red which im interested in, now i know the mechanics and reliability of this korean bike manufacturer arent always great which is putting me off buying it as i dont want it to break down but im just in love with the look of it.

Honda CBR 125 R -

Whats attracting me to it is the fact that its jap, its more available than the Hyosung GT 125 R and the engine is more reliable and the build quality is generally better im lead to believe, but i dont really like the look of the bike ? its kind of putting me off after seeing the hyosung and i do care about looks but its not everything !

PLEASE HELP lol

Thanks Smile

I had a 2005 cbr125 until last year. Its a pretty reliable bike as long as you maintain it properly and it can take a bit of a beating. I dropped mine twice without any sign of damage at all. The only down side i found was the bike was uncomfortable after an hour of riding, but that didnt bother me too much as i was only using it for short trips to college.
If you dont like the look however then dont get the bike, you will regret your decission when your stuck with something you dont like the look of.

I dont really see the point in getting a 125 that looks like a larger bike though. The whole point of one is that they are small and easily maneuverable

If you can get a properly good condition GT125R that genuinely needs nothing done to it, maybe. Don't pay over the odds though just because it's big, and don't hope for the best: spare parts run expensive, and come from breakers or direct from Korea.

Listen for rattly cam chains, look for corrosion on the swing arm (right in the middle of it), and the exhausts. Any electrical issues or "intermittent faults", walk away.

I will never understand why anyone would want a race rep 125 or a 125 that looks like a 600. For the same reasons I don't understand why people take a BMW 518i and stick clear indicators on + an M-Power badge.

Ride / drive what you can ride / drive.

In short, get the cheapest 125 you can. Or the one you want. Yes, actually, get the one you want. Even if I "don't get it" Smile

I don't know much about bikes at all so I can't really advise you on which one is better but I would go for the Honda simply because Hyosung don't seem to exist in the UK anymore. Did they pull out? It would likely be a nightmare to get parts for a Hyosung bike. I was looking at the Hyosung 250 but as I can't really seem to find parts for it, I have been put off.

Have you looked in the Rep. of Ireland? I would have guessed it wouldn't be too hard to change over plates and whatever needs to be done when you get a bike from another country. It's a shame it's so expensive to get a boat across the Irish sea as you could have had a look around the rest of the UK as well.

Generally i am looking something more sporty looking. CBR/YZF ect but there are no YZFs available and any CBR that im interested in has already been sold.

As for the rep of ireland i have looked and there are some good ones but i read somewhere they are charging £2 per CC to transfer over so thats way out of the question

Neither. But the CBR I guess.

It's tiny and skinny and is still a 125 that can do 70 though, you might aswell get a cheap YBR to pass tests on etc

Get an NSR 2stroke unrestricted if you want sporty power
illegals tho on cbt

No YZF-R125's for sale in Northern Ireland? What no Yamaha dealers? I dont believe you! I BET if you REALLY wanted a YZF-R125, you could have one within the week... all you would have to do is telephone a Yamaha Franchise dealer, pay them £4500 or so on a credit card, and tell them what colour scheme you want.

I suspect what you MEAN is that there are No YZF-R125's for sale at the price YOU want to pay. Which is a very different thing.

So, as you are finding, its harder to get a 'sporty' 125 second hand, if you aren't fast on the ads with cash in your pocket to pay the asking price.

Your call, but the 'problem' here seems to be you are hoping to get more for your money than market is offering.... so solution is to up your budget or lower expectations.... if you cant up the budget, that only leaves lowering expectations.... and in that, maybe, just maybe, 'sporty looks' might be a pretty useful expectation to lower, or forget entirely! Depends how much you want a bike, really....

I did a search online to find YZF 125 in Northern Ireland on gumtree and couple other sites, only 1 on gumtree which is already sold.

That would calculate around 13 years to pay off if you chose minimum payment Sick

Just get a good used second hand. Doesn't matter what, all 125's make the same noise thereabouts and have the same 'i am going to blow up' noise when doing 60-70mph even if it does look pretty.

After owning my cbr i honestly wouldnt recommend getting a 'sporty' 125. The only benefits of them are the front fairing and on the cbr thats pretty small anyway. As for speed it will do about 70mph which is the same as a ybr or cg. It's a good bike, but prices are stupidly high just because its sporty styled and has R after the name...
It's all down to what you want in the end. I got a cbr because it was within my budget at the time, but if there are none within your budget then you should just get something that isnt sporty.

As other said though, definitely sit on one before you buy. A lot of my friends tried mine and said they found it too small, while others didnt mind it at all.
