New member here. I'm wanting to get back on a bike after a bit of a break. I did the 50 thing when I was 16, then the 125 thing for a bit before getting more into cars. I've stepped back to bikes a few times over the years, rebuilt an 88 rd125 in an attempt to get properly back on a bike only to find it too small for me once complete, I'm 6ft3. Should of worked that out before finishing really. Sold the rd and got a cb125 twin, which I fitted but was painfully slow. Bought a gilera nordwest 600 as one came up and I've always loved them. Still got it sat in my garage and i do intend on restoring in the future. Where I'm at now is do I go for a cbt and a dt125 or kmx 125 to get back into it or restore the nordwest and do my full test? I'm 37 and i will only be riding for fun a couple of times a week at most.

IMO, do your full test.

It will give you the options of doing whatever you want (other circumstances permitting), whereas CBT only leaves you on a 125 max.

The cost will be recouped over time (through not having to redo the CBT).

also, think of the feeling you'll get riding the nordwest for the first time when it's finished Wink (though you can still take your time and pootle on a 125 until it's done)

I have ridden the nordwest, on private land officer. Time is more the issue really. A day to do my cbt isn't a problem, full licence will need a few days from what I've seen, which is a bit of a nightmare time off wise. Think I may pop up to the local school on my next day off and see what's what with these new changes to the licences

You can arrange lessons and tests for days off (I had no problems organising the initial lessons for weekends, and my tests were a fortnight apart on weekdays when i could organise them with my then employer). The school I went with were pretty flexible, so ask those you would be considering for any training.

Basically, I paid for the das, and sorted the CBT and dates of my lessons, then winged it from there! Granted it may be a bit harder depending on the work situation, but if the school is reasonably flexible, it could be a lot easier than you think.

I get Thursdays and Sundays off, not having to do it in one hit is ideal. I'll make a call to the school tomorrow I think.

Cheers
