Hi,
I'm new to the forum , not so new to the bike scene as I've had a comfy pillion seat for a while now.
I'm now in the process of doing my direct access training and really enjoying it. I am quite tall for a woman ( 5ft 10 ) but know that there are plenty of men alot taller than me.
My instructor uses Fazer 600's as standard but I struggled getting my feet comfy on the peg's / gear selector / back brake. Can I ask what people looked at as first bikes?
I've ended up on a Honda Transalp to learn, which is OK - ish (although I'm still finding it kinda uncomfy twisting my feet onto the back brake)
Any advice as to what I may want to look at or try for size. I did sit on a friends gsxr600 and the peg position did seem to feel alot better however the overall bike seemed small, but obviously as a learner I can't exactly pop out for a test ride!
I guess I'm just after different peoples opinions, originally I was hoping to head for a CBR600f as a first bike (seems to be a reasonable bike for the budget I'll have), or a thundercat.
Your views would be appreciated |

Bear in mind that gearshifts and rear brakes are usually adjustable. Fair enough if you're not comfy on the pegs on the Fazer, but have a fiddle with that Transalp to see if you can sort it out.

I presume you're all leg stay on target so you may end up looking at the likes of V-Stroms and Versyses (Versysen?). The other option might be to simply put a pad on the seat to give you some more height. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Hi Lillybeth,
my girlfriend is also quite tall and she is driving an Honda NC700X.
Did you already thought or tested this possibility?
It is a good bike for people who are beginning one of the most interesting hobbies in the world (motorbiking)

Wotcha, welcome to BCF and bikeing.
Similar issues here (6'8" and long leg).
I ride a CBF600 with no problems, long enough distance between seat and pegs for me and tall enough to not look like I am on a minimoto.
As said here, a lot of them are adjustable (to a certain extent) and you can get aftermarket adjustable pegs, which can drop by an inch or so to help with the longer leg.
When I was looking, I tried out a BMW R1100gs, looks like a nice tall bike, but found that the riding position was not for me and cramped up within a couple of miles.
Varadero is quite a high up bike, with good legroom I found, also the transalp a good fit for me (the new Africa Twin out soon looks good)
Hope that helps
