My GN125 has a speedo in kmph - I've made sure I know what speeds are what (40 = 65, 30 = 45 etc)... just followed a link to BMF which says its illegal to have the speedo in kmph? Is this right - when I looked into it a few months back when I bought the bike, I discovered its not checked by MOT?

Either way, does anyone know where to get inlays to convert to mph?

Hi

Yes the speedo must display both mph and kmh (so technically those converters to change the gearing of the speedo so the marking read mph rather than kmh are not actually legal), but not heard of anyone being done for it, and one car and several of our bikes have kmh speedos.

By the way, 30mph is closer to 50kmh.

All the best

Keith

thats right kph speedos are not legal you must have it converted or replaced they are even banned from being used for the motor bike test unless they have mph or both clearly displayed

mine has those stickers which stick on the plastic clock face. the problem with those converters is that your intire clock face then becomes small. ie if you have a 300kph clock it will only achully need 200mph on it so all your numbers will looks quite squashed. what you want to do is just buy a new clock face for something like £30 i think.

Ok cheers!

I shall begin the hunt for a new clock I think - especially if I want to take my test on the bike!
