Hey guys, so its finally happened i have got my first bike.

I got a Honda CBR 125 R Smile

I found it on Done Deal up in Fermanagh where my dad lives so he came with me to see it and got his mate who is a bike mechanic of sorts to come with us for some reassurance. Now the bike is far from perfect cosmetically but engine wise as far as he can tell without taking everything off its running near 100%. He took it for a test drive and drove it to his where its sitting now where i need to sort out how im gonna get it down to Derry. I cant get anyone to lift it as i dont know anyone with a trailer or anything and its a bit far to drive so soon for me. Got offered a van for 50 quid but cant afford just that right now as i need to buy bits for my bike so ill have to drive it down.

My dads mate did say someone had previously tried to steal the bike from what he can see as wires had been cut and someone tried to put a screwdriver in the petrol tank. It also has a green and purple flip paint which changes colour in the light which IMO doesnt look to bad. The bike was also dropped the guy told us so the nose cone fairing is slightly bent off but its hard to notice and my dads friend has checked it drives true.

So here is some info about what it has and what i need for it -

It has:

6500 Miles
2 New Tyres
Battery
Full 12 Months MOT

What it needs:

Tax
Service
New chain and sprockets shortly
new indicators - they work but front right is broken and back ones are held straight with duct tape
Cover for around the dash board as you can see in pics is missing
bent rear brake lever which will be bent back into place
2 new wing mirrors
new clutch lever as the one on isnt original
pillion seat key lock has been filled up by fibre glass so it looks like it wasn't there also the box under the seat is broke and main seat also comes off.

So guys i have a lot to do on it and parts to pick up here and there but it can be rode now as it sits as i said engine is running great just all cosmetic bits i need to bring it closer back to original standards.

Got it for £820 down from £900

So i hope i picked a good bike i know it isnt the greatest but its my first so looking forward to tinkering about with it. Smile

Wouldn't bother replacing clutch lever because its "not standard" as the paint job is not, nor are the decals.

Good enough little bikes to learn and run around on, I've had a fair few now Thumbs Up

Your indicators being held by tape isn't an issue if it's a strong fix, looks neat enough and passes MOT

As its a first bike and there is a risk you'll drop it I'd only fix things that are broken, dangerous or cause it to fail an mot.

OK... After 6.5K miles it has been repainted, has new tyres and battery, needs a new chain set. I think it may need a new speedo as the mile-meter seems way out

Change the oil as often as you can, these wee bikes really do like good clean oil since they hold so little, I would suggest every 1-2k miles to keep the bike in good order as oil is very cheap compared to parts. Just out of curiousity is the bike a DVA registered bike or an import from GB?

The bike was laid up since 2010 and the guy who sold it to me had it stored away since november until the summer to sell it so the battery was dead.

Dont see the big issue with tyres as they need changing every so many miles.

I had a mechanic look it over and he seems to think it looks genuine enough and it starts first time with no trouble and he said it runs really well.

i think its a DVA registered bike dont think its imported.

Not an uncommon story.

I'd pop a filter into the fuel line, especially if it's been sitting around for a while.

Oil change every 2k max, make sure you remove the strainer every other change, need a gasket for that and some patience. Otherwise you'll eat your own cam bearing, it sounds like this...

You know you need the bike to be warm to do the oil change Thumbs Up

Warm oil flows better than cold so easier to drain

They look like the stock Honda fairings. If they're not then they're a decent facsimile, and it's also not uncommon to replace them with Chinese copies if a bike's been down the road. As long as they stay on and look sexish, job's a good 'un.

Of, if you're planning to take them off then put some penetrating oil on the screws/bolts ASAP. Not WD-40, actual penetrating oil.

It just seems weird to me, the latch underneath is broken so they kind of move around but dont notice it when driving.

There seems to be screw holes with screws in them that dont actually screw into anywhere.

id love a new fairing kit but they are 200 quid on ebay :/

Also, I'd be using supermarket 10w40 specials, £4 for 2 litres or something.

You mean they're not meant to sound like that? Shocked

With the indicators, I picked up a set of smaller, neater ones from a Honda dealer. Took five minutes to fit, although I did have to crimp on different attachments to the cables.

Eh, the fairings on my GPZ were held on with cable ties.
