When traffic is in a slow moving queue.

Define slow moving or queue though... its open to interpretation

When the vehicle in front is turning right?

And any other time you want to and there's no poncing copper watching, ready to give you his golden advice on how you were endangering civilisation. And kittens.

1) If traffic is moving slowly in queues and the left queue is going faster.

2) On a one-way street with multiple lanes.

3) When a vehicle ahead is signaling to turn right.

Those are the three specifically mentioned in the highway code which you ought to have read.

It is not a specific offence to pass on the left elsewhere (providing it would also be legal to pass on the right) but it is certainly frowned upon and (depending on how you do it and who sees) could lead to a charge of driving without due care. This would of course, have to be proven, in court if necessary.

163 Overtaking.
Arrow only overtake on the left if the vehicle in front is signalling to turn right, and there is room to do so

Arrow stay in your lane if traffic is moving slowly in queues[*]. If the queue on your right is moving more slowly than you are, you may pass on the left

143 One-way streets.
Arrow Remember – traffic could be passing on both sides.

[*] Stay in your lane? Surely some mistake. Ahhh...

151 In slow-moving traffic.
Arrow be aware of cyclists and motorcyclists who may be passing on either side.

Now, that one I'd not noticed before. Thinking

Shame nobody seems aware of that.

Or this one

Often I'll be wanting to turn right into a side road thats blocked, so I'll have to sit and wait with my indicator on blocking traffic behind me. But they then get irate with me and not the twat blocking me from turning. Rather annoying

If your instructor posed you a question and didn't make sure you knew the answer at the end, then what use is he?

Sack him. Dance!

Slip road joining a motorway? Although you could class traffic already on motorway as being a different road.

They probably didn't want to pull into the path of the motorcycle undertaking them.

Yes, you can tell that by how they pre-emptively moved to lane 2 in anticipation. Wink

There's a roundabout down the road, and every Doris intending to turn right there dawdles along at 40 in lane 2 for half a mile because every other Doris does it.

The point is that for someone to overtake on the left, someone else has to have hogged the right hand lane first. Two wrongs don't make a right, but two rights make congestion.

Don't do that on test, of course. Or ever. Private road, New Zealand, filmed with Lego.

Lane 1 on most of London's motorways is the only one that's empty. That's why I use it to overtake most of the time.

Indeed. It's staggering how many people think the lane they should be in is linked to the speed they are doing, and not whether they are actually overtaking anything or not!

Still, liberal use of all three lanes does help keep you awake on dull motorways.

I tend to just overtake in whichever lane is most appropriate at the time, but avoiding changing lanes specifically to overtake on the left.

Could they not be considered to be queuing? (it doesn't mention in the highway code whether the queue needs to be virtually stopped, only moving slowly, which they can be considered to be doing if they are at 40 in a 70, no?)

Most people onsider them to be moving slowly if they are doing 70 in a 70....

I don't think consideration comes into it at all. At least not for any other road user.
