New biker had my first bike about 2 weeks. 1998 cbr600f. Beautiful bike 16,750 miles on the clock always garaged never been out in the wet so im told blah blah blah. Just wondered about valve clearances, when should i get them done. Also when the cam chain tensioner is on its way out can you really notice it?
Cheers in advance

Workshop would be a better place to ask.

Mechanical wise i'm not that knowledgeable - personal experience wise though - My ZX6 was running like a sack of crap for a month around 24k. First valve check was due at 26.5k. Had it checked over out of paranoia mainly. Valves were all in spec - and was told they usually are on fairly modern bikes, but don't take that as gospel.

It actually was the CCT in my case to blame - but my bike is renowned for CCT problems, plenty of other aren't so don't go and get a new one fitted as most places will no doubt say its that and offer to 'repair' the bike at cost if you mention you're worried about x-thing.

Best bet is to get signed onto some bike specific forums for stuff like this to be honest - BCF is great, but a forum full of people with the same bike as you will usually have better answers for these sort of specific questions to be honest.

Then obviously return here for general banter, fun and lol's Wink

I will pass on, purely anecdotally, that a chumrade got a CBR600RR recently and took it to a mechanic to get the clearances checked.

The chap essentially turned down his money and said that he's never seen the clearances go out on any modern Honda IL4 (inb4teffers). As they weren't chattering, he suggested just doing a compression check instead to reassure him that they were closing properly.
