PostPosted: 12:01 - 23 May 2014    Post subject: Licence question Reply with quote

Having gone through many posts I can not see this question, my query is:

My daughter has a full driving licence and her CBT has just expired, having read some info from DVLA it appears she does not need to renew her CBT if she rides a 50cc moped as the CBT will last the life of her car licence, but what if she wants to ride a 125cc, will the above still apply or does she need to take a CBT again??? All seems bit bazaar as should she need to take a CBT again for a 125 but not a 50cc, thought compulsory basic training for a 50 is the same as a 125 ????

If someone could clarify it would be very much appreciated....

depends when she took her test ... if she has moped group .
CBT certificates have a limited life span..

the back of the photo card says it all.. look there

Quote:
You can ride a moped without L plates and without taking the full motorcycle test if either:

you have a car driving licence and a compulsory basic training (CBT) certificate
you passed your driving test before 1 February 2001
You must complete a CBT course to confirm your full moped licence if you passed your car driving test on or after 1 February 2001.

Your CBT certificate for riding mopeds is then valid for as long as your car driving licence.

She can ride around on a 500CC ped without L plates or a CBT from the looks of that.

Yeah, she can ride a 50cc without L-Plates (30mph max) but if she wants anything bigger (up to 125cc) she'll need a fresh CBT and L-plates.

Yeah that's the way I read it, so summing up:

If you hold a full car licence you can ride a moped (up to 125cc) for the life of your car licence without "L" plates

Perhaps a traffic cop can comment to confirm, seems about as clear as mud....

Moped up to 50cc and limited to 28mph.

Anything bigger/faster (between 50cc and 125cc) and she will need to do a CBT and ride with L plates.

Monster Smile

Sensible head on.
What they all said, Full Moped licence entitlement allows 50cc ped with no L's, more than that, CBT required
