Hi everyone, im new to all this so please forgive me for all the questions.
Currently I'm doing my direct access and it's all going very well. I have my mod 1 on Tuesday and I can't see a problem with passing it in all honesty.
So I've decided to start looking seriously at my first bike, but I'm feeling slightly torn between getting inline 4 or a v twin.
The two main contenders are a newer shape suzuki sv650 and a new shape honda cbr600f.
I'm currently learning on a 600 hornet and really enjoying it, and being as the cbr is a hornet in a fancy frock I thought it might be the best choice, but it's considerably more than the sv650.
What do the more experienced riders think about the the two bikes I'm comparing??
Thanks in advance for any advice. Very Happy

newer hornets are the same bike as a cbr 600f - they are just wearing a frock.

prior to 2008(I think) a hornet was a hornet and the cbr600rr and cbr 600f were the ones that were nearly the same bike.

either way, neither is "better" its just what you prefer. I like my IL4 fz6 because its fairly docile low down, allowing you to be lazy; i.e. whacking the throttle open coming out of a corner. but you want to, just change down 2 or 3 and it has a awesome top-end rush.

I've got a 14 year old curvy SV as a commuter and runaround.

I like the engine noise, I like the engine braking, I like the instant torque it makes overtakes lazy and easy.
On bendy roads its nice because you sit in the bike (as opposed to the 2011 CBR600F I tried which was much more on, or so it felt).

The finish is not as good as the CBR, for sure. And it's proving to be a pain in the arse to work on. The rad stops access to the front cylinder and the tank stops access to the rear.
But I think mine has shorter hoses on the rad, meaning that on most SV's you can easily drop the rad to gain access, but mine you cant.

I only spent 50mins on a CBR600, so bear that in mind. But I thought it needed to be wound on a bit to get a smile. I can enjoy the SV at a leisurely pace....which is handy because its not a quick bike. It is quite fast, certainly to lose license and die etc. But there are no steps in power really, it won't catch you out.

But SV's are popular track bikes (or were). The chassis is supposed to be a lot more capable than what is in it.
Certainly when I show this 14 year old rusty heap my favourite twisties, it comes alive and makes me smile.

For all it's short comings, I really like it! Smile

If I were you, I'd get a Hornet, or a Striple

But you must test ride them, whatever bikes you end up narrowing down to, must try them.

Interesting. There's a feller round my way with an old blue curvy SV and it sounds absolutely epic. He passes me as I walk to the tube station Sad Still top of my list, they aint big, they aint clever, but they just have something appealing about them. Plus you can pick one up nowdays for very little.
