Are 1 piece rain suits really 100% waterproof? Which ones have you got and do they work and last? Are the dearer ones better? How about Oxford Bone Dry....is it?

Purely IMHO, unless you're a professional rider, a one-piece is overkill.

I use cheap two piece gear, currently a pack-away Regatta jacket and army surplus trousers. Taped seams, job done.

I do own a Weise one-piece that I bagged cheap off the bay, which in the course of two Western Scotchland winters, I've had cause to wear... nonce. If the weather's bad enough to warrant it, I'll not be out long enough to need it. The two piece stuff is sufficient for half an hour or so.

So I can't tell you how well it works.

I tried a one piece waterproof, I really did try to like it.
Maybe because it was another 2nd hand eBay purchase.

Found it difficult to get on. That said single piece leggings I've found hard over bike gear anyhow.

No lining and not gortex. So found I did sweat in it. To the point I wondered if it was actually worth wearing. Seemed more wet on the inside than outside.

Then I found, via a soggy crotch, it's not that waterproof in a prolonged downpour. Which is really when you'd like it to be waterproof.

So just sticking to usual bike gear for now.

I find if it's raining and you put waterproofs on before you set out you arrive sweaty and wet anyhow.
If it rains while you're riding by the time you stop, get the gear, put it on and ride again you're either already wet or the rain has just stopped.

Obviously this does not apply if you're a power ranger wearing sports bike owner or a chromed up Harley rider. Both of which are very, very unlikely to need waterproof gear as bike not used if any chance of rain Wink

I have worn a Richa typhoon one piece, it worked excently in a tropical type monsoon downpour last year, came out of a 45 minutes ride dry.

The one time I had full leathers, I used a one piece w/proof suit over it, and the combination worked well - kept me warm in colder weather too. Bought it in Hein Gericke in Bielefeld, but not sure if it was their own brand.

At work, we get one-piece and overtrousers returned where it's claimed they were leaking at the crotch. When we checked a couple like this, we found that in fact they didn't leak, but the user thought they were cos they were sitting in a puddle of water on their bike seat, and what they were experiencing was the cold coming through in that area. The seam seals were in fact holding up though. I have a pair of Rab o/trousers where at first I swore they were leaking, but it was only this sensation of cold.

Make sure oversuits/trousers aren't too tight a fit, otherwise you can stretch the seams, resulting in leaks.

Trust me on this, it leaked. It started out fine and I wore the suit as just wearing bike kevlar jeans and summer jacket at the time. Soggy jeans and underwear tell their own story Embarassed

I have an RST rain suit and I've used it for well over a year. Not only has it remained 100% waterproof as long as you make sure to velcro-up properly and not leave any gaps, it's kept the wind off me enough in winter so that I don't need any extra layers apart from clothes -> gear -> rain suit.

Bear in mind that the suit effectively acts as a sail / wind break, and I noticed recently that the top speed of a new 600RR was 156mph (I reckon without the suit I could have gotten 160). Also, my trips tend to be at maximum one hour.

Still, I highly recommend it and couldn't ride happily in England's weather without one now. If you get one, and you wear 'Medium' sized gear, make sure to get at least one size up.

I bought a Spada two piece a little while ago and although ive only worn it about three times, it has remained waterproof when used. It's not breathable though, so not sure how much you'd sweat in warm weather wearing it.

+1 on the Regatta love.

I got these sexy plastic bitches almost 2 years ago for £12...

They stayed waterproof in every pissing bit of rain we've had in that time, even storms.

One caveat tho, they have split open pockets, I contact adhesive'd em, jobs a goodun. Thumbs Up

Oh and you look like a prick in them (...so 2 caveats I guess)

I've just bought one this week due to getting new leathers and not wanting to get them ruined lol, spent £45 on a all in one suit by Buffalo from CMC in Nottingham and has proven very worthy die to the torrential rain spurts we have had lately, hope this helps

IXS Crazy trousers, HG blizzard jacket. Two carrier bags big enough to go over boots.

Trousers are disposable if you have a hot exhaust to melt them to. I like the IXS ones, they open really wide, and velcro shut so no zips to get caught or otherwise cause annoyance but I've not tried them at epic speeds.

Jacket selected for having mesh liner and a hood stuffed into collar for when off bike. Not available any more, but haven't trashed a jacket. Extra length is good. Adjustable elastics and velcro to get it tight in all the right places yet still allow movement is handy. Buy the one you can get on fastest without ripping. If it rips or stretches in store then it's not suitable for more than a mobility scooter and even then I would recommend something else.

Rain comes from above, jacket goes on first, carrier bags help boots through trousers. Can't get a one-piece on fast enough. Doing legs first means the top half of you and the inside of the top of a one piece get wet.

I found with my motorway commute, the 1 piece removes anything for the wind to get under and is so easy to remove. You simply unzip, remove the long line of velcro and step out Laughing

Very pleased with my Flexothane all-in-one. Can often be picked up on the cheap from eBay. Normally around £60 new but I managed to find one for £17!
Far better than my 'waterproof' RST textiles. Occasionally let in a tiny amount of water at speed but it just needs adjusting so the flap isn't a funnel in the airflow ie. just tuck it down a bit.

One piece waterproofs are superb! Theyre usually a bit of a faff to put on but if you're like me (rather, how I used to be) and you relied on a bike to get you from A-B then don't entertain anything else other than a 1 piece rain suit. Unless you can afford Rukka gear.

They have kept me dry on multiple occasions where two piece rainsuits have always allowed rain to creep in somewhere. Whatsmore, on cold and wet days, they keep the windchill of you also.

HG used to do them for £30 a pop.
