Hi all,
I'm looking for an urban scrambler type bike. Something akin to a DR350 or a CRM250. Max budget = £2,000

I'm only about 5'7'' tall though.

Recommendation s please

with £2k, and not wanting to use off road, id Say Gilera Nordwest or Yamaha TDR250, but there's lots of other examples, KLE500, DR650 etc etc.

Should be able to get a DR-Z400 for that I would've thought. Maybe even a XTZ660.

Bike is only going to be used for commuting through traffic and fun rides - have realised that I had more joy from bikes that weren't Super sports bikes (possibly controversially)!

Fun rides on or off road?

I went for a uperbike rather than supersports for traffic - but for the bike being easy to ride rather than 'joyful'.

Currently looking at Honda CRM's on ebay - thinking of recapturing my old school 2 stroke fun days.
I'm too old to look for the fastest thing on the block, too young to look for the most reliable thing out there.
Talk to me am I buying a disaster if I go for a CRM?

On or off road?

The CRM makes an excellent enduro bike with it's flat power delivery and light weight.

But for commuting and so on, I'd be tempted to go for a DRZ or something.

Third time lucky, he may tell you whether he has any aspirations to take the thing on dirt. Rolling Eyes

Lighter than an XT, similar power, has more than 1 application.

The XTs I have ridden suck massive dick.

As above - if you factor cost/reliability/power/weight ratio it does ok.
XTZ loses out from weighing not far of an SV650, but with less power and more vibes.

Sorry for not getting back sooner.
Yes looking for something that I can take greenlaning and get dirty but can also be day to day commuter.
Have mostly ridden sports bikes but don't really want a sportsbike any more.

FMX 650, a bit less power than other SM bikes out there, but it won't need rebuild that soon and it is basically indestructible. My mate just got one, well I find it boring (compared to my zxr), but loads of people love it + it's aircooled.

EDIT: To get a bit more power out of it, you need to get rid of the ecosystem and get some exhaust system with no catalytic converter in it. Thumbs Up

I'd be tempted to buy two bikes and get two that are decent at the job - a GPZ500s or similar for daily stuff, say £650 - and that leaves you £1350 to get a nice light dirt bike which you can keep some proper knobblies on - CRM250, or a KTM EXC/Gas Gas EC and so on.
