 Posted: 13:46 - 07 Feb 2011 Post subject: Tips for Module 1?? |
 |
|
Hi,
I have had a lesson on my 125cc bike and I feel that I am confident enough to have a punt at my Mod1 very soon. I have been practising manovures on a carpark.
Any tips on how to pass? I've been riding for a couple of weeks and I am in the process of revising and passing my theory test.
I would just like to know whether you think I should have another lesson before I attempt my Mod1, or do you think I should just go for it after I've passed my theory...after all it is only £15.50?
And then have another few lessons before my Mod2. From what I've read/seen, the Mod2 is the one that requires the most practice and the cost is considerable higher than the Mod1.
Any advice is greatly appreciated

Yup, book it yourself, watch the YouTube DSA videos, and just get it done.
On the 2 50kph speed tests, go round the bend in 2nd gear as fast are you're able, then give it beans as early as possible.
Don't change up to 3rd, don't back off until you're right at the speed gate, and don't check your speedo - you won't get any faster by looking down, you'll just distract yourself from the manoeuvre. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

the pass rates 75% at macc aswell for mod 2 compared to the shity 50% at newcastle |
Fair enough :/ is that a big disadvantage or...?
And I might do my Mod2 there as well, cus its the same price everywhere, so I may as well do it with a better examiner instead of a knobhead one :L ____________________ Past Bikes: '97 CG125, '91 GPZ500S, '01 FZS600, '07 S/Triple, '99 ZX9R, '82 GP125, '83 GP100, '03 SV1000S, '98 ZX6R

You've had a lesson, just take mod1 tests again and again. if you dont pass first time.... it'll be cheaper than a lesson and you can't pass on a lesson MOD1 is playing about between cones. ____________________ 57 Huoniao HN125-8 - , 97 Kawasaki GPZ500S -

I booked my tests 18 months after passing my CBT and a couple of lessons. I probably had about 100 hours of riding experience by then and passed both modules first time.
When I first started riding I decided that I could probably pass mod1 fairly easily by studying Youtube and practising nothing but the manoeuvres needed. But then I would be way out of my depth for mod2, in which you need to be prepared for anything. That can only come from experience... leaving a huge gap between mod1/2.
So instead I waited and gained enough experience to pass them both back to back.
Both routes work, but in my case with the test centre 2 hours away in each direction I didn't want to be making that trip on my 125 frequently!
If I had my time again, the first thing I would do would be to book a test, fail and know what I needed to work towards. Looking back, I waited too long and was more than ready after about 60 hours.
So, if you are meeting your bike at the centre and only riding the test, go for it. Its not a lot of money and you will come out knowing exactly where your strengths and weaknesses are. If the test centre is a 30 minute ride for you, go for it. If you are having to ride for an extended period of time in this shite weather, I would wait a few more weeks.
But the gamble is yours, you could have been riding off road for 30 years for all I know and plenty of people have passed after even less experience than you |

I did my Mod1 in October at Burton, so it was a good ride down the A50 to there. Passed first time. I had lessons with Bryans on Stoke City football ground, may be worth having a couple of hours with them - they set the course out in the car park and you can practice it there.
As others have said, there is loads on youtube. Also, treat it like you are on the road - observations etc. Use the run up to the swerve as a sling shot and just gun it in second all the way round, fly out and swerve. You will hit the speed easily.
I was looking to do Mod2 In Nov, but got cancelled due to snow - got it in a couple of weeks so I'd be up for a ride out once I pass and get a bike sorted.
Good luck. |
Ahhhhhh yes, I went to Bryans for my Geton session they're good blokes but at the moment, I'm using One2One, who are based pretty much next door to the Mod2 centre in Newcastle.
I'll let you know how I get on and I'd love a little rideout somewhere once I've passed But I've gotta wait 'til 19th March to do my theory >< as all the dates/times before then aren't good to fit in with college ____________________ Past Bikes: '97 CG125, '91 GPZ500S, '01 FZS600, '07 S/Triple, '99 ZX9R, '82 GP125, '83 GP100, '03 SV1000S, '98 ZX6R

You feel ready when you feel ready.
I had been for 6 months before taking my test, and in all that time only covered 1,000 miles. Not alot really. I only rode around town really, so slow riding technique was somewhat up to standard, esspecially as my towns roads are awful, with 30 degree hills, potholes, and verticle pipe fills along the width of the whole road.
I took no lessons. ____________________ CBT: 12/06/10, Theory: 22/09/10, Module 1: 09/11/10, Module 2: 19/01/11
