Finally got round to cobbling together a video from my 30 quid helmet cam. Quality is watchable, but the mount kept slipping so the angle is funny at times.

This one has no incriminating stuff (against me) yet. Well, not much. The next vid could be pointed more at 'look what you can get away with here on a daily basis'.

But for now, city riding, shit roads in the country riding, and nice mountain road/pretty views riding.

Really interesting - thanks.

The thing i came away with was that the traffic laws all appear to be advisory, nothing more. Somewhat surprised me that.

4months followed by 2500km in Vietnam prepared me well for this place. It's vanilla in comparison.

Still get random Chinese leaf munchers telling me I'm 'incapable' of riding in Chinese traffic though Laughing

Anyway, glad you enjoyed it. I played it on the projector in class today (killed 15 minutes, win) and nearly made one of the kids throw up from motion sickness.

I guess helmet cams and no mirrors (ergo more shoulder checks) is a bit dodgy Laughing

I get frustrated when one person cuts me up. I suppose over there you seriously expect everyone to do silly stuff so it makes it easier? maybe?

Really good watch!

So you filmed this in 2012 then?
Or is that just the default date/time running on the camera?

Nice interesting video Thumbs Up Looks a bit like Penang traffic, but less congested and far more chilled out in terms of speed and following the rules!

You get similar behaviour here but lots more people seem to be in a hurry compared to China so with the higher volume of cars it's a bit more hectic despite Malaysians being slightly more law-abiding.

Aye, it's pretty sedate. Generally maximum speed is 60kph on 90% of roads. Most people go well below that. I tend to barely go faster than 70 these days.

To answer other points, yes they are doing so many stupid things that everyone expects stupidity. So you have a nice safety blanket if you're not a total imbecile. So much so that stoned riding is a pretty fun pastime... On the way back through the destroyed hellscape of potholes the buggers created I smoked about 4 joints (I knew what was coming... which was slowly picking through holes and catching half a desert in my eyes).

Map, it's the default time stamp. Fucked if I know how to change it, instructions in (brief) Chinese and no obvious settings. It's on the lower quality setting, that's about it. But literally did the mountain run a fortnight ago.

Snoosnoo, to be honest I just carve them up. If you're going slowly, you'll get cut up all the time and end up denting some rich wankers car and having to throw money at him to shut him up. Unless you are very good at acting injured. But by going fast, I clear the pack quickly and get away from the issues. So I very rarely get cut up. If I was more law abiding/genteel I'd have more issues I guess.

I must admit, Vietnam was much more mental. I was in Bien Hoa, another post-industrialisation overpopulated hellpit. That was insane riding. I was in Australia for a year after that with a big tourer, and it's just so boring without people constantly trying to jump/ride/drive under your wheels... and then suddenly, kangaroo, which completely takes you by surprise.

But, Vietnam was unpleasant to ride in. Very unpleasant. Whereas China is just about the right about of batshit.

Dukes of hazard ramp Laughing

You probably have to drop a correctly titled text file with the date onto the root directory of the SD card.
Finding the format will be tricky, but YYYY:MM:DD:HR:MN sort of thing.
Most likely the file needs to be called time.txt or TIME.TXT

Enjoyed the video, struck by the cliché low visibility hazy overcast through a lot of it.

In Hefei, the closest we normally get to blue skies is smudge grey.
