PostPosted: 16:34 - 28 May 2014    Post subject: Someone constantly moving my bike Reply with quote

I work up in London and ride up there fairly early to get a decent motorbike parking space. I make sure to give enough space for myself, the bike next to me and the free space for the next bike.

For the last 6 months every so often my bike would of been moved to the right by about half a metre, enough so that I can't lean it up right again as the bike I gave space to in first place is now in the way as some douche has moved mine over. It happens every 1-2 two times weeks and its always when the same ped rider parks to my left.

I think I know who it is, however I have only ever seen him once and that was after the first time so I let it slide as I found out he works at where I work as I saw him in the canteen, thought it wasn't worth the hassle. However its carrying on and after today I was close to smashing both his wing mirrors but I managed calmed down and just rode off.

I keep thinking of leaving a note, but by the time I find out I have to go back into the office and get a pen and paper etc, and I doubt he would really care about a note "telling him off" about parking.

Is there anything I can actually do about this?

Chain his bike to an immovable object. Then call the feds when you see him trying to cut through it to get home!!

a) Grow a pair and confront, or
b) Whine about it on tinterwebz.

Simple choice.

Think you missed the point that I don't actually know where to find him, seen him once. Don't fancy just waiting at his bike. I'd enjoy confronting him.

Whining on interwebs helps vent anger Smile

Cyclone V2 alarm (to flash indicators and make noise) - since fitting this my bike no longer gets moved.
Are there any other bays nearby? Might be worth just moving to another one, there are usually several within walking distance from one another.

Get a cheap alarmed disc lock so that next time he does it he sets it off.
Wait in the shadows, then when you hear said alarm, charge out with a sledgehammer/axe/other and start windmilling it around in his general direction like a madman.

Or just leave a note on your bike asking kindly if he'd not move it, because when he does you can't then get your bike upright again.

Polite note might work, and if it does, then result. If it doesn't then have a word with him.

Don't get mad at first, explain. More likely to get a positive response from that if he knows WHY you don't want him to do it (and not just cos people don't like some other cunts mitts on their machine)

Work out when it will happen for definite and then book that day off or schedule to be in later. Park up and wait to see what happens. If you see someone moving your bike run over and kidney punch the cunt! Job done.

Or you could put a straight pin through his ht lead. Sparks everywhere!

Don't you have any form of security to stop toerags from nicking your bike?
Simple answer - lock the steering head and pop on a cheap disc lock (but expect to come back to seeing it lying on the floor if someone's been used to just pushing it around as the lock may well surprise them!)

Park a little bit closer to the bike that's there when you turn up so there's not enough room to fit a fourth bike in the gap by moving yours.

Ped-guy is probably innocent. What's probably happening is that you turn up and leave a decent gap between you and the bike already parked. Now Ped guy turns up and does the same. Later when the rank is full, someone (a ped-courier normally) needs a spot and sees that if he moves your bike to the right (coz it's easier) there's then enough gap between you and ped-guy to nick a cheeky parking spot. It only happens when ped-guy is parked there because no-one else leaves that gap.
I watched this happen time and again on the rank by Debenhams last year.

Throw his ped in the road.

If he moved your bike and it fell and caused damage to another bike, he'd leg it and you'd be footed with the bill or having to deal with insurance.

Lay in wait for him to move your bike, then give him a right good pasting and when the cops show just claim you caught him trying to steal your bike.

How's your bike being moved? Dragged or wheeled?

If wheeled (I hope not) then try making it obvious that it's not welcome. Alarmed disc lock, of course, but how about:

£43 for a Grip Lock

https://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41ZVrwj6eXL.jpg

Or ghetto your own. 45mm (ID) padlock, you may need bigger or smaller depending on your grips and how far you can pull the lever.

Confused I would be more worried about the lever coming that far back in the first place Laughing

Before you take any drastic action, actually make sure it's him. Next time you see him, ask him.

If it is him, then take on BCF's creative ideas Very Happy

Personally, I'd disc lock and cyclone alarm my bike. So if he moves your bike it'll draw attention to it and look like he's a thief or something dodgy/not right is going on.
I'd then buy a cheap bicycle lock for a few quid from Halfords and just inconvenience him by locking his wheel to something which restricts his bike from being moved.

Do you not have it steering locked?
I have a cheapo disc lock which is alarmed. Still doesnt stop my wing mirrors being moved...presumably by bumping into them!!

If you like the idea of that there is another variation.
Croc Lock (Datatool).
A tad cheaper too.
