What's a good brand of detector and what's a good price. Also how well do they work?

Cheers.

If a radar detector has detected radar it means the radar has already reached your car/bike, which means they are as much use as a fart in a spacesuit, I rest my case. Mr. Green

If you can detect the speed trap you have already been detected by the magic rays that have detected you, can you see what I mean?

Not the answer you're looking for but if you're going so fast that you miss the fluorescent scamera van then you'll miss gravel, badly driven hatchbacks, dead animals, portals to alternate dimensions, etc.

I'm presuming a detector gives you a chance because it picks up stray signals from vehicles in front being targeted.

i think that was the case with radar as it was a "wide beam" so you could pick up the odd beam etc, but laser is pin point - so once that has got you....your done

You can get speed camera location apps for smartphones that tell you where fixed cameras are and popular locations for mobile vans.

A couple of years back I was driving a borrowed vehicle with one of those road angels. It didn't detect any of the three speed cameras I knew were there, the scamera vans that I went past (knew the hot spots for these anyways) nor did it detect a T5 hidden up an entry slipway on the M62 (wasn't a problem as I wasn't speeding).

It did go mental at random intervals for no discernible reason (clear road with no speed detector in sight) and if I drove past a shop with automatic doors, it would go batshit.

A GPS with a reliable subscription for speed camera locations is about the best you'll get, IMO.

I honestly think the only way to avoid speed camera devices would be to use lots of super-smooth and perfectly angled mirrors to deflect all beams away. Or use paint that absorbs all the beams so they don't reflect at all. I presume this is how stealth bombers work.

I wonder if anyone's actually tried it?

They tried a few on mythbusters once. Don't think any really work, one made the speed appear faster!

As said before...most are using lazer now so no warning....my old radar detector could pick up the old radar guns over the brow of a hill before line of sight but apart from some warning of traffic lights by schools etc your mostly going to be picking up motion sensor doors on your local high street!

On your phone Radardroid or Trapster for free or the Pocket GPS world database for about £20 a year.

The last one has the best database as it includes the sites of mobile cameras as well.

The best solution is the Mk 1 eyeball attached to a brain with a modicum of sense....

Takes me back to the late 90's, when I knew a bloke with a tuned ZX12R and a Flip up number plate. Laughing

Think if you get caught with one of these your arse is gonna get demolished though!
