Just saw this French review of the MT-09 Street Rally. Didn't understand a single word but enjoyed all the mad hooning.

The design's really growing on me, it looks distinctly... Japanese. Not sure how good the ground clearance will be with that underslung exhaust though. Surprised they didn't fit a belly pan, for what good that'll do with pipes that low.

Moto Journal is in the shops every Thursday.

The bike isn't a whore, but I think in this context, a jack of all trades.

The motor is quite lively, it's quite comfortable. They'd like a little more protection from the elements, it's funny looking.

Sporty yet minimalist at the same time. Radial brakes, Michelin rubber.

The suspension is a little soft.

In summary:

Get a load of Yamaha sponsored riders to wax lyrical about the new product and generally hoon around and have a laugh on all types of surface - you too can do this if you can afford all the different sets of tyres. Note Rossi has nothing to say - peutetre parce que il ne parlez pa la Francais.

Personal view: Yeh, the looks are a bit weird, but I'm more into performance than aesthetics. If it works well enough, it can Look like Jodie Marsh for me. As for ground clearance, it looks quite narrow, making up for the low exhausts. Belly pan? You'll probably find that in the accessories catalogue.

Also, can someone explain why exactly it's 300 quid cheaper in France?

Kudos for the Green Day track.

EDIT: These are the ramblings of an inebriated man. Just finished a night shift, pay day, pass 24 hour Tesco on the way home.

The bike looks OK, but I the presenting style was good. Not taking itself seriously, but not a caricature of itself like Top Gear.
If only they spoke a proper language...

I looked at the regular MT-09 yesterday and while it's a nice looking bike the area above the headlight and around the small LCD clocks looks really cheap and unfinished. That little fairing on the Rally does well to cover that. It's a shame they went on to make the handguards all line up perfectly. That looks like an old-school, riot shield-sized, aftermarket fairing with the Perspex missing.

Meh.

That's how you test a bike! Very Happy

Off topic - in the road section, were those Furygan Jeans the rider was wearing? Been looking for a pair of decently cut kevlar jeans and they look spot on!!
