Just got this in an email, and thought I'd share it with everyone here. I think it's been copied from a website. I've not seen it publicised to well, so come down and make a contribution! I'll be there from opening time I hope. Depending on how my test goes on Friday, I'll be on a R/W/B 02 NSR with/without L's - sayy hello!

Drag Racing - Speed Rules
13 July 2004
GET set for a high-octane treat this month as drag racers rev up for a 200mph charity race across London City Airport.

One hundred and fifty machines take part, from 1000bhp nitro-burning powerhouses to relatively subtle British classics from the 1930s onwards.

They will roar across the mile-long runway at Silvertown on Saturday, July 24.

Promised

Cash raised from spectators will go towards the Lewis Jacobs Trust for Autistic Children, a charity picked by the Silvertown airport. Terry Homan, co-director of organisers Motorsports Promotions, said: "We were involved in the airport's recent fun-day and said we were also looking for somewhere to run a race event. We promised we'd make funds available to a charity of the
airport's choice."

It is not the first time the club have used the runway as a track, which is utilised occasionally for trials.

Mr Homan, formerly of Plashet Road, Plaistow, said a number of the
supercharged bikes would leave spectators agog.

"There are some strange machines taking part. One travels at 220mph. That's 0-100mph in about two and a half seconds," said the bike enthusiast, who races a twin cylinder 1970s Triumph and a similarly aged, supercharged Weslake.

Special

He added: "There's also a special Harley Davidson which, at 2000cc, will shake the ground it races on. A 1960 drag car will also take part.''

Gates open at 12.30pm with racing from 1pm. The day ends 7pm. Admission is £5 adults, £1 kids.
