Out on the CBF on Friday and thought the back end was a little twitchy, so got home and checked it out to find that the rear tyre was a tad lacking in inflation.

That is to say, flat as a very flat thing (no wonder it was wobbly)

Not sure how long it was like that (checked it before I left in the morning), but the surface is all scrubbed up and lost a lot of tread depth.

Using the old school method of puncture location (soapy water), found a small nick in the central part of the tyre, which was rather leaky.

Fortunately, my lad is a Mech (tyre tech) in training and he is going to plug it this morning for me, also got a new one on order for coming in tomorrow (fitted Wednesday).

Two questions :-

How long can you ride on a flat without noticing it? as i have had car flats, which instantly present themselves and need attention, but all this did to let me know it was there, was a slight instability at the back end, so could have been like that for up to 70 miles.

Secondly, Got a Metzler Roadtec Z6 on order as I have been reliably informed that they are more resistant to squaring off, due to a multiple compound. ANyone got any thoughts on these?

Cheers

Mike

I've ridden home late evening a good five miles with a practically flat rear - and a practically flat front (not at the same time!)
It handled like a pig but not unrideable - front tyre was badly affected and had to be replaced but well worn anyway.

Scared stiff it would pop of the rim and I'd suddenly be on metal Confused

My GPz305 had a slow leak that took it down to essentially flat so slowly that I didn't notice until the smell of burning rubber clued me in.

Eyeballing it, I honestly couldn't tell that it was out of air. Salient lesson in using a gauge to check.

Tyre now fixed.

No damage to the carcass of the tyre, sidewall not even scuffed, tread depth good for another couple of hundred miles, straight through puncture, nothing left in, no internal damage to anything.

Sorted

Metz will be here tomorrow for about £80 +the dreaded and fitted where the bike is (behind my shop), advantages of having a tyre dealer live in the flat upstairs Smile

Not as bad a day as it could have been
