Hi, I'm just wondering, what's the difference between "off-road" and "road" 2-stroke oil?

They're both fully synthetic, and I can't really see any difference except one is £10, the other is £16.

And could I do any damage running a DTR on "off-road" oil? Thumbs Up

Which oils specifically?

Off-road may be made for pre-mixing, which may mean it doesn't work so well in a pumped system.

It's Putoline MX 5 2 Stroke. Fully Synthetic.

The road stuff is just that stuff they sell you in motorbike shops.

Also I premix my DTR anyway. There is no pump on my bike, took it out from the engine and put a blanker there. Thumbs Up

Why Question

Oil pump failed on a country lane. Killed my engine, after a full rebuild decided it'd be easier to run it premix than to put my trust in another auto lube. Plus I wouldn't want to put a used one in anyway. Wasn't going to even bother asking Yamaha how much for a new one. Laughing

Easy enough to do, never had any problems with doing premix. A little 250ML nail varnish bottle with duct tape around marking out 125ML. Run it on a 30:1 ratio (Or a 31:1 I forget which) Very Happy

Can't see any reason not to use the linked one, though that does seem quite cheap for a 'competition' oil.

Did you find out why the pump had failed?

Nope. Although I'm on a DT forum and ain't the only one to have had it happen. A couple of people from there have gotten rid of their auto lubes in favour of premixing.

Seems to be a common thing on DTR's sadly.

Just don't put thick pre-mix only oil in an injector system, as it's too thick for the pump to cope with.

I like to use thicker pre-mix only oils for pre-mixing, but they say you can happily use thinner injector type oil for pre-mix as well.
