For fucks sake. Wtf is it with this not using sirens policy??? I was out near squires / tadcaster the other week, pissing down it was - visibility awful, in a remote rural location. Some anus in a luton van in front is going really slow, then slower still, until eventually signalling left and pulling in at the side of the road. Well okay. Fine, I'll just edge out and round him. Errrm no. Fucking ambulance coming the other way doing about 80. Lights but no siren.

Because we wouldn't want to wake anyone up. In a location where nobody lives. At 11.00am. When it's really fucking rainy and other road users could definitely benefit from not just flashing lights but any other cues - like....well....maybe sirens??

Seriously - what's the fucking thinking here. Which stupid bastard sent the no sirens memo round, and why?!?!?

"60mph" (allegedly) through a junction even with sirens shouldn't happen, not safe in the least.

here I see Fire and ambulances with blues and twos slowing to about 20 for junctions even though everyone has stopped /moved out the was as much as poss.

That is a very busy junction at all times so what the hell were they doing travelling at around 60mph with no sirens Rolling Eyes

I hope the motorcyclist heals with no permanent issues and these idiots get the book thrown at them.

For ambulance if have patient (customer) on board then no sirens is not uncommon as deemed less stressful for the patient. You can usually tell if you can see only driver will be in the front (obviously need driver Rolling Eyes ).

If they're going to an incident then sirens common, two people sat at the front.

So have some patience and do your obs. Thumbs Up

Hah. As if it's automatically the everyday road user's job to get out of the way of random vehicles ploughing through traffic at 60mph. Really it should be, "The police car didn't see the motorbike."

On another note - I see police cars doing this all the time. Also I see a seemingly disproportionate amount of coppers using their sirens to get through traffic in the heart of London. I refuse to believe there's enough crime in the very heart of the touristic centre of the city to warrant the amount of coppers I see responding to 'emergencies'.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if their bosses had told them they can do it, because it helps them do their patrols unhindered or something.

I wonder how many lectures Constable Leadfoot there has delivered on the consequences of excessive speed for the conditions.

I've nearly been taken out on my pushbike by a Plodmobile that hoofed it straight ahead from a left turn lane while indicating left. They're right up there with white vans and Micras on my hazard list.

Best wishes to the biker for a full recovery and successful prosecution of said police. Thumbs Up

And let's hope the police learn some lessons from this although, that would mean educating them, so I'm not sure how feasible that would be.

Firstly, I hope he recovers with no injuries or he's in for a massive payout!

WTF do the coppers think they're doing going 60 through a crossroads?! A biker does a wheelie on an A road with no traffic and gets prison, what will the filth (in both senses) get? Taken from driving duties?

Woman got done for death by dangerous driving for going 32 through some lights or something then lost control after the collision, what's their excuse for hitting railings after "just" hitting a bike? They're so skillful and much better than you or me.

Why? Nobody that matters got hurt.

The victim is more likely to get done for Without Due Care and Attention, and possibly damaging crown property or wasting police time.

I jest of course.

Maybe.

That's just shocking and I'm genuinely upset by it, careless bastards.

Big Middle Finger to the officers in control of those vehicles. (I use the word control loosely)

60 through a junction, unacceptable regardless of whether they had those sirens blaring or not. As if junctions aren't already dangerous enough we gotta look out for maniac plods rushing to get their fix of maccy D's. Don't they go through training to prevent this kind of shit? And yet it still happens

I hope the motorcyclist is okay and when he recovers sues the absolute shit out of those officers.

I was with you right up to the while indicating left. Then it just turned into a fairy tale. Everyone knows police don't use indicators* Wink

Thumbs Up

* this is what I think:
not using indicators isn't an offence in itself. However, not using them on your test you fail. So not using them on the road after your test you fall below the standard that would be reasonably expected for you to be a competent driver. That I believe is also the criteria for careless driving offence (driving without due care and attention). So for a police office, who has received extra training, to fall below the standard expected of a pleb normal person their driving is way, way below the standard expected. IMHO not that that matters as traffic offers think know they are gods, traffic police appears a job for life and you don't get any disciplinary action unless you kill someone. Even then it's not a certainty.

BTW 99.9% of non-traffic police I've come across have actually been human beings, competent, professional and reasonable. I suspect they also know who their father is.

FWIW I did a quick google and came across this...
CPS - Road Traffic Offences - Guidance on Charging Offences arising from Driving Incidents (clicky link) if anyone wants a read.

The section on Drivers of emergency service vehicles and drivers in emergencies would appear to contain a number of get out clauses.
e.g.
CPS wrote:
...Our starting point is that it is very unlikely to be appropriate to proceed with a prosecution on public interest grounds if a police officer, member of ambulance staff or fire-fighter commits a driving offence while responding to an emergency call...
Get out of jail free card there straight way.
However, there is a ray of hope...
CPS wrote:
...The Court of Appeal...held that special skill (or lack of skill) of a driver is irrelevant when considering whether driving is dangerous. The test to be applied is the objective test of the competent and careful driver as set out in statute.

The Court of Appeal also stated clearly that police officers were not entitled to drive dangerously when on duty or responding to an emergency...
Feel free to have a read and make your own mind up.

Thumbs Up
